VA Health Care Priority Groups http://www.va.gov/opa/publications/benefits_book/benefits_chap01.asp The following four categories of Veterans are not required to enroll, but are urged to do so to permit better planning of health resources: 1. Veterans with a service-connected disability of 50 percent or more. 2. Veterans seeking care for a disability the military determined was incurred or aggravated in the line of duty, but which VA has not yet rated, within 12 months of discharge. 3. Veterans seeking care for a service-connected disability only. 4. Veterans seeking registry examinations (Ionizing Radiation, Agent Orange, Gulf War/Operation Iraqi Freedom/Operation Ne…

I do not know if this is rolled out everywhere, but wanted to share my experience. I had a pre-scheduled appointment at my VAMC. Of course, I was bombarded by letters and text messages reminding me about the appointment. However, when I was driving to the hospital, I received a different text asking me to check in remotely. Once I got on the premises, I used the feature to check in. It was pretty simple. What surprised me was it asked if I wanted to file a travel claim for this specific appointment. I decided to give it a shot. It appears to have worked. I checked the travel web site and found the claim showing as "claim submitted". I kind of doubt this would work for com…

I'm searching for where to go for Neuravive Treatment. I remember seeing it available through the VA in several states but I can't find the information on the Web. Community Health has denied my request for treatment at the Ocean Coast Medical Center in Fountain Valley, California. I'm currently in New Mexico. Any ideas how to find that information?

Since the VAMC clinic clerks no longer print travel vouchers, we are now forced to either fill out and mail the form or use the online travel system. Half the time the online system does not work properly. It would be great if the VA could automate this for vets to a varying degree. If going to a community care appointment, a claim would still be required because the VA system does not integrate with their systems. The VA really should automatically issue travel claims for those which can be detected in their system. For example, if you are SC for something and see a VA provider, issue the claim payment automatically. The same for 50%+ vets or those attending an…

Hello all, So a few years back, I had wrongly stopped taking 1/4 medications I take. I got restless legs which gave me insomnia and when I got to my GP, she team messages my Psych doc, who, I believe, discouraged any treatment for restless legs, probably out of guilt. I started taking the meds again and the restless legs went away. Anyways, several months later, in the dentist chair - I see a diagnosis I've never been told I have on my info screen on computer: Paranoid Character. Undoubtedly due to my anxiety over not sleeping for that short time (less than 2 months) but still on my permanent record for all my providers to see. I currently take all my meds…

For community care, I was told by VAMC travel that I just needed a work excuse. Today, they tell me that the work excuses also have to be dated by the provider. I had three VA appointments today, each about 30 minutes away from each other and the VAMC travel office only gave me a voucher for the one at the VAMC. They could not provide a regulation or M21-1 reference stating this policy. They said they needed them date/time stamped to see if I had enough time to go home between visits (which I would have) just in case they get audited. They printed out an email they received stating there is no restriction or limit to the number of trips a BT veteran can claim. It say…

I have an appointment with the VA Chiropractor coming up and I’m trying to figure out if I will be given an MRI. I am 40% for lower back and I think that an MRI will show other issues. Anyone been through this before? Thanks in advance.

Since I recently moved to another state I decided to try the VA Primary Care facility near me. I am 50% service connected for back. The PCP wanted to order some blood work for my first visit. I had no health conditions except the back pain. I assumed this was the basic stuff any doctor would ask for to check cholesterol, etc. When I went to the VA lab they drew about 6 tubes of blood. I joked with the nurse and called her a Vampire. She said your doctor ordered a lot of tests. When I get the results I was iterated to find out they drug tested me. I am not a drug user and didn’t pop positive for anything, but I felt a bit misled. I logged into my priv…

My VA PCP has requested home primary care for me. Those who decide have put in my file that they want a "comprehensive medical psychosocial assessment" first. Why would they even think they needed this? Anyone experience this before? Any info would be welcomed.

I received an email from the VA this morning requesting me to contact them as they claimed they could not contact me by phone.. ( yea right!) So I called them, it was community care and they wanted to set up an appointment for an open MRI for my spine, ( One segment at a time) This was requested in Dec 2021. Because of the Goverments over reaction to COVID19, it was impossible to get an appointment in Jan so I just told them to forget it. So here we go again, they want to send me to Austin or Waco, I told them I am not giing to Austin, and if the place in Waco is within a 30 minute drive good, otherwise I won't accept any appointment. I need this…

In March (yes, March), my VAMC primary care doc submitted a referral for community care for a couple of things. As I was hoping to get this scheduled sooner than later, I inquired and was told to contact two different individuals who work in community care. The first individual's phone automatically hangs up after a couple of rings. The other individual's phone rings without ever being answered. That happened every time I tried to call regardless of day or time of day. I followed up and primary care sent an inquiry asking them to call me, but I still have yet to hear from anyone. I did more inquiring and hopefully someone calls me soon. I have an odd feeling that the…

Another case of the VA claiming they sent my meds in the mail and I got all but one... The pharmacy said it was sent with A, B, C, and D. Well, I got those four, but that's all that was in the package. Tracking showed it was a single shipment which was delivered. Fortunately, the VAMC pharmacy was able to get me a replacement next day. I do realize that the VA sometimes sends a single shipment in multiple packages which might arrive a day or two apart, but a week later without it is disturbing. Here's what I recommend we vets do when presented with this situation. When requesting refills online, as they arrive it would be a good idea to go back and double-check to se…
