VA Health Care Priority Groups http://www.va.gov/opa/publications/benefits_book/benefits_chap01.asp The following four categories of Veterans are not required to enroll, but are urged to do so to permit better planning of health resources: 1. Veterans with a service-connected disability of 50 percent or more. 2. Veterans seeking care for a disability the military determined was incurred or aggravated in the line of duty, but which VA has not yet rated, within 12 months of discharge. 3. Veterans seeking care for a service-connected disability only. 4. Veterans seeking registry examinations (Ionizing Radiation, Agent Orange, Gulf War/Operation Iraqi Freedom/Operation Ne…

Hello all, So a few years back, I had wrongly stopped taking 1/4 medications I take. I got restless legs which gave me insomnia and when I got to my GP, she team messages my Psych doc, who, I believe, discouraged any treatment for restless legs, probably out of guilt. I started taking the meds again and the restless legs went away. Anyways, several months later, in the dentist chair - I see a diagnosis I've never been told I have on my info screen on computer: Paranoid Character. Undoubtedly due to my anxiety over not sleeping for that short time (less than 2 months) but still on my permanent record for all my providers to see. I currently take all my meds…

I was given the "Healthwise For Life" 466-pagen book last week at the local VA Outpatient Clinic. On page xiii, II, INFORMATION DISCLOSURE AND CONFIDENTIALITY, reads as follows at third bullet: "...You have the right to information in your medical record and may request a copy of your medical records. This will be provided, EXCEPT IN RARE SITUATIONS WHERE YOUR VA PHYSICIAN FEELS THE INFORMATION WILL BE HARMFUL TO YOU." What the heck is this supposed to mean....am I not privy to my COMPLETE medical record? Why would MY information be withheld from me? This sounds totally illegal. Can someone please chirp in about this...

I'm Sarah Greenberg, a writer for a website called Eye Care Leaders 20/20, which distills the latest medical and business information for eyecare physicians to help them run their practice. We really want to dedicate some of our website content to helping physicians advocate for veterans. As you know, the VA can be disorganized and physicians have been challenged to serve the swelling populations of veterans coming to them. Would anyone consider speaking with me for 10 minutes one day this week? I would like to ask you the following:If a veteran walks into a physician's office for the first time, what are 3-4 crucial questions that the physician should ask the veteran?Wh…

I can't seem to figure out how or where to go to get some much needed dental work done. I can't find any numbers to call. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

I have been 100% P&T since last year. As soon my rating was increased the VA clinic I go to was unable to give me appointments or treatment. I never have had this problem this bad in over 20 years going to VA to be seen on a regular basis. I have service connected injuries of 12 different injuries. My VA doctor tells me there is nothing he can do to help me. My nurse doesn't want to answer my secure messages any more. I am 4 months away from the 20 year rule on half of my service connected injuries. Any ideas, thoughts, suggestions, advice would be appreciated. Thanks and God Bless all of you veterans!

I'm not sure if anyone will have the answers to this post, but I'll ask anyhow... BVA granted me 100% TDIU back on Aug. 7 of last year, retro to 2009. I have the BVA Decision Letter, but the new rating has not yet been put into effect. I just had a tooth fall apart an hour ago. It will need a crown at best, or maybe even an implant. (My civilian dentist saw it coming and told me what was going to happen when he repaired it awhile back.) Even with my insurance, I'm looking at up to $1,000 or more out of my pocket to repair it. My questions are: 1. Should the VA dentist over in Shreveport let me make an appointment and fix my tooth, with no proo…

Gee I thought the VA was talking them selves up last year about how veterans could get appointments and tests withing 30 days. Well I guess that was last year. Just scheduled my vascular study to see if I can go on aspirn next month and get off Cumadin. They have me scheduled for October 25th. Time to send a letter of to my members of Congress thanking them for this wonderful and timely health care. Best regards,

I got my rating in December, and I'm lost about how to get an acutal appointment for my condition. I guess I waited for the VA to send me something else, but obviously it never came. I guess I supposed the VA would send me a card or something. I also spent a good while searching through Ebenefits for away to get an appointment, but couldn't find anything. Tried to get level 2 MyhealtheVet account, but it looks like it takes an act of congress... I stumbled on this last week, https://www.1010ez.med.va.gov/sec/vha/1010ez/ , so I took the time to fill it all out. Am I on the right track?

Well, decided to add the VAMC (Hampton) to health care lineup. Since several health issues are service connected and I really should have some specialists involved, it seemed like a good idea. Got an intake appointment fairly quickly--like 2 weeks--so that seemed okay. Made the appointment yesterday with interviews with Nurse, followed by Nurse Practitioner (long interview). At the end, she tells me its now taking 6 months to see a PCP and that's what she would put in my notes, but when the front desk would assign the PCP during checkout and they might schedule me as far out as 9 months!!!! I was a little stunned by this...so didn't even question her. Then the f…
