VA Health Care Priority Groups http://www.va.gov/opa/publications/benefits_book/benefits_chap01.asp The following four categories of Veterans are not required to enroll, but are urged to do so to permit better planning of health resources: 1. Veterans with a service-connected disability of 50 percent or more. 2. Veterans seeking care for a disability the military determined was incurred or aggravated in the line of duty, but which VA has not yet rated, within 12 months of discharge. 3. Veterans seeking care for a service-connected disability only. 4. Veterans seeking registry examinations (Ionizing Radiation, Agent Orange, Gulf War/Operation Iraqi Freedom/Operation Ne…

What should I expect at my initial va physical exam at the local VAMC?

Just noticed there are posts on what to expect for C&P exams, but not for regular VA doc appointments. Actually, I see some information added to individual messages, but to be honest, Va medical appointments 'ARE different!' Case in point, VA calls me to set up annual checkup appointment, the VA told me I had to do blood tests in advance in order to get the appointment. Private doc sees the patient, then has patient do blood tests 'afterwards', saying I'll send you the results or call you if something else is up. Va doc or np types about 15 minutes first, then physically checks or 'sees' patient 3 minutes and rushes out.. Private doc sees paitent, asks how i…

So I am about to go up the VA medical center "chain of command" and I've learned from many posts that this is common... What is the typical chain of command at a VA medical center (above the Patient Advocate)? I dislike complaining but am not averse to it where treatment and people become inaccessible. There must be a ton of people in between the Pat Adv and the Director.... I'm sure its like the military - if you go right to the base commander with an issue, you not only make the problem worse, you piss off a bunch of people in between him and yourself in a big hurry. Thanks! Dante

Hi Folks, I thought I would share what I learned about getting a re-payment of copay fees and medicines from the VA. This is not a quick process and the do not even care that it takes quite a while to accomplish. As with all issues dealing with the VA, there is no recourse, except maybe the OIG. First, I was awarded 10% for Agent Orange exposure resulting in IHD with an effective date of 2003. Then in 2008 I was awarded an addition 20% for DMII, thus giving a total of 30% combined. I have other appeals pending but they are not the issue here today. The latest rating decision had a toll free number for me to call and I did with a request to recoup my copays goin…

I was awarded 70% sc after 28 months. I was being treated at a VAMC and was reimbursed for my co pays by the VA. But the VAMC sent me to a teaching hospital for treatment for some reason. There I am covered under my wife's medical insurance and have to pay co pays under her policy, also scrips have to go to CVS instead of to the VA. My question is how do I get the VA to reimburse me? Thank you for your time, and I thank God for this website I would never have won my claim if not for what I learned here

This report was done in 2007. McClatchy was bought out Knight Rider news in that year, but McClatchy has kept much of Chris Adams research. This article points out the VA's Mode of Operation, and the article shows the VA's desire to show itself as tops in the country through minions embellishments. Chris Adams has been a top research/report and has done a great job at bringing out the truth in Veterans Treatment. VA medical system isn't as big a success as officials have asserted http://www.mcclatchydc.com/staff/chris_ada...tory/16149.html Excerpt from Chris Adam article: While the VA's health system has gotten very good marks for a transformation it's undert…

Hello all, Is there any requirement that you be seen by your PCM at the VA Medical Center once a year? I remember talking to a Vet at a bus stop once and he was living overseas but came back apparently just to check in with his PCM. So I'm wondering are there any requirements about that? Thank you

I got in a bit of a tiff with the travel folks last week when I was at the Gainesville VAMC. I had just come from an appointment at the VA Dermatology Clinic which is located at a different location than the VAMC. The Derm clinic is in zip code 32605 and the VAMC is in zip code 32608, both in Gainesville Florida. I asked the travel clerk why I was being paid to the VAMC and not the Derm Clinic which is a bout 7 miles from the VAMC. I was told that they paid zip code to zip code from my home to the VAMC. I asked why I did not get paid to where I went and they said it is all the VAMC. Not a good answer. I asked to speak to a supervisor and was told that they all were …

I requested my C file from VA about two weeks ago. So far no reply, but I assume that is typical VA. Will the C file contain comments from my medical records, or should I request them from the VA hospital where I am being handled? I'm real curious to see what has been said about my various exams.
