It has been a long time since I last visited Hadit, and I've missed those individuals that have become friends. But rest assured I have managed to help many vets along the way outside from those that I helped here at Hadit. Now it's my turn to ask for help. I want to clear up the requirements for SMC so that I can understand it, please. I have PTSD rated at 70% and many other ratings that have put me at 100% P&T. In order to qualify for the SMC do I have to have a single rating of 100%, plus the additional combined to 60%. OR, can I have several ratings that total 100%, plus additional ratings that add up to 60%. The guidelines are very confusing so a bit of help to c…

Can I get SMC awarded back to original Effective Date? Not having been aware of the SMC at all, has anyone ever successfully been awarded SMC back to their original Effective Date? In reading these blogs, I came across a webpage providing an overview of all SMC’s. One line stood out: “If the VA did not give Special Monthly Compensation in a case that qualifies, the veteran can request for his case to be reviewed, and Special Monthly Compensation will then be given dating back to the original VA Rating Decision.” I plan on filing for SMC “L”: – In regular need of another person to help dress, clean, feed himself, and use the restroom (aid and att…

Created new sub-forums under Special Monthly Compensation. All the SMC's now have their own forum and I've moved some of the appropriate threads from the main smc forum to their more specific sub-forums to get us started. Asknod suggested and I thought it was good idea - so I created it. Hope you all find it helpful and give Asknod a thanks for a great addition.

Can a Veteran who has been Inferred SMC S-1 H.B. because he had another disability separate from his original 100% disability or 90%combined with IU That made the veteran meet the criteria for the SMC S-1 H.B. Under the statutory rating system. Would he be Eligible for SMC-K for E.D. at the same time? In other words is there a CFR that omits this SMC-K for Rating for the E.D. B/C of the SMC S-1 H.B.???? If a veteran has the SMC-S-1 H.B. then no matter what his age does the VA think he is not able to have sex b/c he is House Bound?..beside the fact if he has E.D.no matter his age then the sex is out of the question. Anybody..elder members & e…

In January 2015 I was granted a SAH housing grant and my higher level of AA was remanded back to the RO for more documentation b/c they stated Veteran may be entitled to a higher level if they get information from a company I hired to come in a help take care of me but unfortunately I could not keep them as the cost was way too much so instead I rely on less expensive means, family and a nurse I hired on a 24hr care as needed basis. My question is since I was granted the housing grant and from what I can read, the requirements for a higher level of AA, R-2 are the same as it is for the housing grant so why would they grant me a housing grant and not a higher level of AA?…
