Why is it that the caregiver program does not apply to veterans of the Vietnam, WWII, etc eras? Why should it be limited to certain ones? Seems almost an age discrimination thing. Kate

I can't seem to find anything (not even online) about how mental health and the need for Daily Living help effects the chances of getting SMC and at what rate. I have PTSD and Schizoaffective (Bipolar Type) and documented memory loss from Electric shock treatment. But no where do I find if I qualify for SMC and if I do where I would possibly rate. Can anyone chime in on how Aid and Attendance and mental health work in this situation. I am not homebound but do require constant help in and outside the house. I do have two doctors a psychologist and neurologist who says I need it and may need nursing home care if I ever have no one to take care of me. Th…

Is there a specific form which should be used to file for SMC higher than K? If a veteran meets the criteria for s or r how does the veteran go about requesting consideration for receiving the SMC. Are there any tips for do's and don'ts when filing for SMC?

I am rated at 100% major depression disorder; 10% DJD left knee; 10% DJD left hip; 20% DDD lumber spine; and 30% calcified left quadriceps. I am at 100% plus 60% SMC (S-1). Yesterday I put in a claim for an increase evaluation of the lumber spine and sleep apnea secondary due to S/C major depression disorder. If I am granted an increase eval of the lumber spine and granted secondary S/C of sleep apnea, how much will I get? The VA Medical Center dx me with sleep apnea 18 months ago and put a cpap mask on me. Using VA math, how much an increase will I get. Will I get more SMC.?

Just talked an ro out of st. Paul. They are still denying aid and attendance for tbi n residuals. He said under 38cfr3.352 (a) I have to have 100% scheduler I read cfr and not true. I've been 100% permanent and total since 2008. Tdiu rating. My current overall rating is 90%.

I just want to make sure I'm correct in my interpretation of the SMC - S requirements. It seems as though I think I understand VA Speak and often find out there are considerations to which I am unaware. Looking at SMC S it appears that the requirement (not including housebound) is a 100% rating and additional ratings that equate to 60%. Someplace I read that the additional ratings must be unrelated to the 100% rating. So if this is correct, I assume rated secondary conditions can not be considered in meeting the 60% criteria?

I would like to report that I was awarded smc (s) with retro pay back to 2008. It continues to amaze me what you can learn on this board and other boards about the benefits that you are entitled to but everything thing is so vague and confusing when dealing with the VA. Once again thanks to everyone, I'm proof that you qualify for SMC (s) if you have a 100% disability and other disabilities that are combine to equal 60% or more. Don't let anyone tell you otherwise, I actually received a call from a VA representative on the past Saturday to inform me. Also, it has been updated in my ebenefits portal. THANKS!! P.S. EMAILING BOB WORKED!!!!

I have a 0% rating for a head injury and a 0% for erectile dysfunction. For SMC purposes does this equal 10%?
