SUBJ: Final Rule: Schedule for Rating Disabilities; Eye

Purpose

A final rulemaking amending 38 CFR 4.75 through 4.84a was published in the Federal Register on November 10, 2008 at 73 FR 66543. This rulemaking revises the portions of the rating schedule that addresses disabilities of the eye.

The purpose is to update this portion of the rating schedule to ensure that it uses current medical terminology and unambiguous criteria, and that it reflects medical advances that have occurred since the last review. Numerous editorial changes were made. More detailed explanations for substantive changes are included in the "Supplementary Information" section of both the final rulemaking, which is enclosed, and the notice of proposed rulemaking, which was published in the Federal Register on May 11, 1999 (64 FR 25246-25258).
