TBI fishing vet's Achievements

  1. I was appointed a Federal Recovery Coordinator to help with my brain injury. She seems to only be there to tell me that I missed my appointments. Not much help otherwise. Is there any suggestions for people to speak to (that actually cares) help me with my incompetently claim so I can legally go turkey hunting again. I think they made it illegal for me to buy firearms.
  2. The VA sent me a letter that I forgot to respond to. I'm working with the VFW to send a notice of disagreement to piggyback the letter from the doctor saying that I am handling my finances well alone. I feel like once I become rated competent I will have another battle getting my name off of the brady bill. I found all of this out when I went to buy a shotgun and was turned down by the background check. I asked my case manager about it. If she or any VA employee reports me will/can they show up at my doorstep? How can I make this go away fast?
  3. I have been in college for one year now and I am still not sure what is entitled to me with voc rehab. I had a tbi that effects my memory, concentration, and my ability to remember my location at times. I would like to know what could help me complete my college degree. A doctor recommended a lifescribe pen that records the lesson as I take notes, a garmin Oregon gps, dragon naturally speaking software, a dell laptop and many other things but I only received a computer and a copy of dragon. I hope to hear some words of the wise from other vets that have gone through voc rehab. Thank you in advance for your suggestions!
  4. Hello everyone, I wanted to get some information about how to rebuttal the veteran administration’s decision to rate me as incompetent. The VA rated me for incompetence back in October because of my severe memory loss due to a traumatic brain injury. I feel that I can manage money quite well, in fact much better than most without a tbi. I am young with a large amount of money invested for my age, I own 2 vehicles that are paid off with no debt whatsoever. I manage my money and pay my bills by direct deposit so I don’t have to worry about forgetting any payments and I supervise my accounts with a website called mint.com. I have no kids, no wife, no ex-wife and no drug or alcohol addiction. One day I received a letter in the mail saying that I have been rated incompetent. It also included the brady act information and the works. I imminently called my federal recovery coordinator for help but she had none. She told me just to wait until my year of supervised direct pay is over and if found competent I will be magically off the brady act and able to go hunting again (you all know that’s not true. I also called the VFW and their advice was to wait as well. I’m afraid if I go turkey hunting this year ill bag a federal offense! Hunting and shooting is the most enjoyable part of life for me and I've done nothing wrong to be demonized as a person that shouldn’t own a firearm. This is extremely wrong that our government can hurl power like this. -I need help getting off of this list so I can go hunting again please help!!! Most recently I have logged onto ebenifits and have found this message and after at least 6 months of sending a statement in supporting claim sent from a doctor stating that I am capable of taking care of my finances. Please give me suggestions to help expedite this process Claim received:5/04/13 Claim type: compensation estimated claim completion date:03/24/14-11/16/14 physician statement veteran is competent (new)
  5. Now if their actions harm you and you are competent and they cause you to miss out financially, you may be able to sue. How would their actions cause me to miss out financially? What would I sue them for?
  6. Your a victim. Why did you tell mental health you liked to play with guns? You are not alone. Here is some history: Last year thousands of vets lost their rights to own fire arms due to being placed on a list. These vets were assigned a fudiciary. There are about 100.000 of you so youi are not alone. I did not tell mental health anything but the fact that I wanted to be rated compatent. After my apointment with the psycologist I asked the lady to send the VA and I a statement that I was compatent and she did. That letter was sent to the VA but getting awnsers of its whereabouts are like pulling teeth while breaking into Ft. Knox. -Will they come and take my guns? -How can I get off the brady act without shelling out a huge ammount of cash for a lawer.
  7. Dont even think of doing this alone. You need a good VA attorney like NVLSP, Mr. Carpenter, Ms Katrina Eagle, Doug Rosinski, etc. Face the facts: You are gonna pay the attornies to quash this and wait. You will also likely need a IMO/IME rebutting whatever evidence the VA used to declare you incompetent. Thank you for your helpful advise I have checked out their website and I plan to get some type of a lawer to get me out of this mess. Do you mean the VA sent you a letter proposing to declare you incompetent? When did this letter arrive? Did you ask VA for a hearing? The VA sent me both letters while I was in the process of a change of residence. I receved both my letters on the same day, One saying a proposal the other saying that I was rated incopetent. I was later called by a man from the va that wanted to evaluate my finances after I opened my bugeting tool (mint.com) that has 3 years of my banking information and budgets he said that he didnt think that I was incopetent but he had to put me on supervised direct pay for a year. He said that I had to get a Psycologest to send the va a letter that I was in fact compatent with my finances. I did that and she sent a letter to the va months ago and nobody seems to know who recived that letter. But I got a COPY folks! You may want to invest into a Cross Bow and a long bow for now. That is also a lot of fun. What about Black Powder Rifle is it included in the Brady Bill. My purpose for contacting this forum was not for alternatives on the way I hunt. I'm a avid bowhunter as well but, that dosent mean that im going to give up my right to attend USPSA pistol compatition because of the VA's mistake.
