  1. Am I correct to understand that Project Shad is a completely DEAD ISSUE. I can find no current discussion anywhere. Thanks.
  2. During the last 2 years or hearing exam, I have discussed "Hyperacusis" with the VA audiologist. I have a 10% service connected tinnitus award. Is there a possible claim for the Hyperacusis? Thanks for your response.
  3. Has anyone received a disability payment for any type of medical condition? Where can one fine the medical conditions associated with Project 112/Shad? Thanks again.
  4. Any ideas as to where the Project 112/SHAD goes from here? The fact that the National Academies reviewed and updated its own findings is quite interesting. I believe their website says that are 85% funded by taxpayers dollars. There were several veterans in the meetings - any ideas as to their opinions as to where we should go in the future? Thanks for your service.
  5. If the results of this SHAD II study indicate a difference in outcome between the SHAD participants and the comparison population, or if the study finds new information that would warrant new research avenues, MFUA will be prepared to conduct additional research as appropriate. This study is sponsored by the U.S. Veterans Administration. Effective 6/10/2015, the study will conclude January 15, 2016.
  6. Project Information Printer Friendly Version Project Title: Shipboard Hazard and Defense II (SHAD II) PIN: IOM-BSP-10-08 Major Unit: Institute of Medicine Sub Unit: Board on the Health of Select Populations Medical Follow-up Agency RSO: Joellenbeck, Lois Subject/Focus Area: Environment and Environmental Studies; Health and Medicine Project Scope An ad hoc committee of experts in conjunction with IOM's Medical Follow-up Agency (MFUA) will conduct an epidemiological study comparing the health status of the SHAD veterans with a comparison population. This study will build on knowledge gained from a prior study (Long-term Health Effects of Participation in Project SHAD, PIN# MFUA-H-02-04-A) conducted by MFUA staff between 2003 and 2007. The SHAD II study will use the established SHAD participants list and the comparison population list of individuals determined from the prior study. As part of the data collection process, the committee will plan and conduct an initial workshop to receive suggestions and input from SHAD Veterans about their experiences so that the study can be informed by new insights from this group. Following the completion of the analyses, the Committee will author an IOM report summarizing the approach and findings of the study.
  7. Thanks for the information - but how does this relate to Project SHAD.
  8. I am suprised that more SHAD veterans aren't posting on these SHAD sites. Thanks.
  9. I was on the USS Hoel DDG13 - Autumn Gold. I have the fact sheet and am in the VA system for other issues. Thanks.
  10. Is the Project Shad/112 Issue still alive. It doesn't appear that there is any new information - None for a long time.
