  1. Yeah John, it's the controlled release, take 30mg every 12 hrs. I'm going to start taking it this Friday when the wife comes back from Xmas travels. I got the med last Friday but I was unsure of any side effects and thought it better when the wife gets home. Bob
  2. I have just been prescribed Morphine 30mg twice daily for chronic severe pain. I have done some reading about the drug which appears to be real strong. I'm wondering if anyone else has had any personal experience with Morphine and what I should look out for in regards to side effects, pain relief or addiction? Bob
  3. OLD 5311 I was at Mare Island while you were stationed onbaord HALIBUT and PARCHE. I was a crane operator supervisor and was in the 'OE' program. I also remember the SEAWOLF was part of the program. Well, its good to see somone from good ole Mare Island. Too bad you are having the problems. By the way, remember that famous bar there in Vallejo?
  4. Hi All I have an upcoming VA ILP contractor coming to my home on Monday. I'm wondering what to expect or has anyone else had the pleasure of an ILP home interview. Any advice would be appreciated. Bob
  5. When I received my award letter it stated that exposure to asbestos was granted because of the age of the ship I was on and my job while in the Navy. The VARO granted without any arguments. I file my claims here in Georgia and they have been really good to me. I also have a private asbestos attorney in California and he is handling suing the few companies that haven't gone into bankruptcy. At last count, he has filed suit against 28 asbestos companies and I have received a few settlements. Not much money but its better than nothing. I think I won my case against the VA because I had all the reports, documents and xrays from private doctors before filing initially and submitted as evidence. Hopefully, you can win the case for your vet and I'll be around if I can help you or anyone. Bob
  6. I filed for asbestosis with the VA and received 60 percent on first claim. Two years later, I lost my job of 31 years with the federal gov't and received IU from the VA. When you had you xray taken by a private doctor (before VA), the doc should have sent your xray for asbestosis to what they call a ""B" reader. This is a TRAINED radiologist who reads only asbestos related xrays. If you didn't have this done, I suggest you get copies of the xrays and have this special radiologist read them and then give his finding on a report. Also, if you haven't, go see a private Lung Pulmonoligist and have him do a workup on you stressing asbestos exposure. I had all this evidence when I had my initial C&P done and handed this to the VA doctor. I also attached this evidence to my initial claim. Bob
  7. If I was you, I would get a SSA lawyer and file a reconsideration. I was 60 percent VA and lost my job due to my SC disabilities. I filed for SSD and was turned down initially. I found a SSA lawyer and we won on reconsideration. The lawyer got 25 percent of all back pay. In my opinion, it was well worth the attorney. Bob
  8. John In May 04, I lost my job of 31 yrs with the gov't because of my asbestos disease - just couldn't breathe so I was unable to due my job. I applied for IU the same month and was awarded IU in June 04. Two weeks later, I received a letter from the Atlanta, GA VARO stating P&T awarded effective June 04. I know I had it much easier than a lot of vets - the Atlanta GA VARO has been excellent for me as well as all the doctors in the North Florida/South Georgia Vets Health Care Program. Bob
  9. Hello Everyone, I submitted an asbestos exposure claim in 2002 and was awarded 60% right out of the shoot. I had a private pulmonary lung specialist right up some letters "that based on my service in the Navy, this is where the exposure came from" and then I submitted them with my original claim. After the C and P exam, the doctor agreed with my private doctor. My origian claim reads "service connection is established as the evidence show that you did serve on a ship for more than a year and exposure to asbestos is conceded. Doubt is resolved in favor of the veteran. My Navy service was from 69 to 73 - so there was plenty of asbestos. Sometime in the mid 70's, they started to rip it out of the ships so your naval service dates are pretty important. Bob
