  1. Thank you guys for all of your advice and encouragement. I am on the phone right now with the VA to get copies of medical records and exams, and begin working to get that strong IMO. Thanks again guys!
  2. Berta (and others), Here is my TDIU denial letter. If you see anything within it or have any advice that can help me I would greatly appreciate it. Thank you. Kappa
  3. Gonna try and get the scanner up and running. Thank you Berta.
  4. Got the white envelope from the Columbia VA Regional Office. After waiting just over a year for the claim I get a big fat DENIED...again. I'm not sure if this is the second or third time, but what I do know is the last time I got a denial letter from them it took just over a month. I'm already strategizing my next move though. I may have to get an attorney, the last time I did that the attorney fell through, but his professional paperwork helped my SC claim go from 50% to 70%. It is sooo FRUSTRATING to have to wait that length of time for a denial!!! Does anyone know of any good veterans' lawyers in or around the Columbia, SC area that can help me with this?! Kappa
  5. I should have posted this earlier, but I got in free at The World of Coca-Cola in Atlanta, GA. The offer was for active duty, but I showed them my VA card and they let me in. I guess you'll just have to try it and see! Make sure you're thirsty when you get there LOL!
  6. Wow, this looks like it will be no small task, but when dealing with the VA when is it ever? I see that one of the first things that I need to do is to get this guy to get his C-file. I really appreciate all of your responses, and I look forward to receivng any help/advice you guys can give me in the future. Kappa
  7. Hi all, I recently reconnected with one of my Marine buddies who served with me in Iraq. He currently is not receiving any compensation from the VA due to being mislead and misinformed. When I knew him in service he had a short temper and that lead to him just giving up on any claim from the VA instead of continuously pursuing it. If there is anyone that can relate to me and my time in Iraq is this guy. We were both mechanics and he and I worked as a team. He went through everything I went through, so I can't stand by and receive compensation for things while he does not. I may not be able to get the guy 100%, but even if we just get our foot in the door then it's a start. I should have done more research before I agreed to help him, but in the military he was one of my juniors and I automatically switched to that mindset where I have to look out for him. We would basically be starting from scratch. He does not have any of the paperwork from before. Any advice you guys could give me on helping him out will be greatly appreciated. Kappa
  8. Thanks guys! Lemme try to answer all the questions here... What percentage do you receive for PTSD?? 50% Are the stressors combat related?? YES Do you have a difficult time keeping gainful employment?? Lost my last job for what appears to be a combination of downsizing AND poor performance due to the PTSD (this was BEFORE I knew I had it) What was the GAF from the last PTSD C&P?? 55 to 60 What was your MOS?? 3521 Motor Transport Mechanic I haven't worked since I was let go from that job in 2007. When I was last turned down for TDIU the letter said something to the effect of "just because you are not looking for work does not mean that you are unable to work." Sounds to me like someone had a bug up their butt the day they denied my TDIU claim. Thanks again for advice. Kappa
  9. I am already receiving 70% comp for feet, back, sinuses, and PTSD (also receiving SSD). I recently started a PCT PTSD group at the VA mental health center. Can attending this group be grounds for an increase in my benefits? I also wanted to know if I can submit claims for diabetes and sarcoidosis? I was turned down for TDIU once before, should I try again with the new evidence of the PCT group, diabetes, and sarcoidosis, put in for increase for the existing conditions (PTSD), or submit new claims? I really hope someone understands my questions here, as it is really frustrating trying to word it right. Thanks for any advice. Kappa
  10. My apologies Berta, My MOS was 3521, Motor Transport mechanic. So i spent a lot of time crawling in, around, and underneath a lot of vehicles. No, I didn't mention any other people by name in the journal, just "this guy" or "the corpsman." Thank you for your help. Kappa
  11. Bertha, I was told by my primary care and mental health doctors at the VA that they no longer could do IMO's. I assume it's the same with the doc that was telling me about sarcoidosis. I believe I have an appointment coming up and hopefully I will be able to ask her then about the IMO. I DID come across a journal that I kept covering the time from when we were on ship, up to us being in Baghdad. In this journal is an entry specifically talking about burning of feces and animal carcasses in our immediate area. I wrote it as sort of a poem. There's a lot of unmentionable stuff in there. Do you think that it may help in any way? Thanks for your help.
  12. The closest thing I have to anything respitory is that I am SC rated 10% for sinusitis/rhinitis.
  13. I separated from the Marines December of 2003, OIF Vet, was there at the kickoff of that event. September of 2008 I noticed swollen lymph nodes in my neck/jaw area. After a biopsy that lead to a collapsed lung I was notified by the VA (I had to contact them to find out) that I have sarcoidosis. The doctor told me that she was seeing an increase in cases of sarcoidosis in servicemembers coming back from Iraq. My question is: Even though 5 years had passed since I separated from the military, can my sarcoidosis be considered service connected? I did a little research on this site and noticed something about it being considered "presumptive." Can someone please break this down to me in something other than just a lot of medical jargon. I have a difficult time sometimes trying to understand what things mean. Any help is appreciated. Kappa
  14. Destia, I'm not as knowledged as these guys here, but I hope I can offer some advice. I was approved for SSD at 50% (30 ptsd 10,10,and 10 others). Your locale plays a part on how easy or difficult getting SSD. I was in California where I heard it was easier, i got it on the first attempt, but my mom and stepfather in South Carolina have been working at it for a few years, i heard it was extremley difficult in SC. Another thing is that I had a retired Navy guy that worked my SSD claim. I guess it would be better to have someone sympathetic towards vets. Call for the appointment with Social Security and make sure you go in IN PERSON. When I did have an attorney (he bailed on me) he wanted to make sure that i went in person and not do a telephone interview for SSD. If you have your medical records take them, and when they send you the paperwork for yourself and someone close to you to fill out make sure you fill it out from the perspective of you on your worst days (when your conditions are at their worst). I hope this helps in some way. Wishing you the best of luck with your claim. Kappa
