Anyone Ever Heard Of A Norsechief Mos?

Rate this question

Question

Good afternoon!

I am sorry in advance if this is not the appropriate forum, I couldn't find an area for general questions. I am helping the wife of a friend file her husbands FDC. My problem is that his job title/MOS on his DD214 states "Norsechief" and I can't find that anywhere! I have even been on the Viernam era Marine Corps MOS site and nada! He was out of Camp LaJeune and then onto Cambodia and Laos with Charlie company in 1970-71 and is listed as a VFMA314?

Anybody?

I am at a loss after spending an entire morning looking for this....

Thank you,

marineswife

Here is a site where the old salts of VMFA-314 hang out http://vmfa-314.com/

Marine Fighter/Attack Squadron 314 (VMFA-314), is now homeported at a Marine Corps Air Station, El Toro, Calif. Duty Officer: 858-577-4434

Might get help at Together We Served http://marines.togetherweserved.com/usmc/landing/index.jsp?gclid=CMDdjvT2-cYCFQmCaQodOP0GLQ

Hope this helps!

Yup, you'll need a jarhead to figure this one out. I'm thinking it's something like Naval Operations Reconnaissance and Surveillance Engineer Chief, but only a marine(maybe Berta or asknod, too) would know the correct acronyms. jmo

MCAS El Toro no longer exists. It was closed in June 1999, and a real controversy for years. It was my last duty station (S-2 MACG-38) and was is competition with Quantico, VA for the best duty station in the Corps.

I don't believe that Marine Air Wings have/had companies in their order of battle--only squadrons, sections, units and detachments, so any "Charlie company" would have to be a unit in a First Battalion of one of the Marine Regiments: Example-- C/1/9= Charlie Company, 1st Battalion, 9th Marine Regiment. The various Regiments were swapped in and out of active Marine Divisions (equal to a Wing) 1-5. Headquarters Marine Corps also has companies.

I have never heard of the term "Norsechief." The veteran's DD-214 should contain a 4 digit MOS which would go a long way in determining the veteran's unit.

Hope this helps.
