Others on this board will chime in with more concise info compared to my "opinion", but I don't see the correlation.

I searched the BVA decisions and found one which was denied.

Doing a google search did find "some" correlation, such as:

post-traumatic stress disorder, which itself may be accompanied by tinnitus and may exacerbate it.

Carlie (rest her soul), Berta, Gastone, and georgiapapa gave some good advice here on the issue:

Maybe a better route would be to apply for tinnitus as a stand alone? What was your MOS?

Combat, MOS, preferably verifiable noise exposure will usually get a Tinnitus Award.

Unless you had major ear trauma, most combat vets I talk to, have experienced the slow insidious progression of the humming or what ever in either 1 or both ears; for many years. In most cases, started being noticeable at least a few yrs after discharge, and usually in a very quite atmosphere.

Each yr it seems to get progressively worse and more distracting. Again, it more noticeable, when in a quite environment.

Can't say I've ever come accross any medical info regarding PTSD causing any type of Hearing condition degradation.

 Bilateral Noise Induced Hearing loss

I think the best way to get S.C. for tinnitus is relate the MOS to a Noise Endure while in the military records proof or proof of MOS)  that at least likely as not has caused this veterans ringing , humming or crickets sounds in there ears as he describes the sound he hears in his head  the medical word for this in its norm is called Tinnitus

Also an independent certified Audiologist to test his hearing using the VA criteria and Maryland CNC word discrimination test

A ENT Dr is good to use

''otologist''  otolarynglolgist

ear specialist

and give his impression of the test's

The private Dr  or his assist  can call the VAMC and they will send him the VA protocol and a CD of the Maryland word test...If the Private Dr will Request it

Note find a good veteran friendly Doc that will do this.  They are some out there  just have to call around and let them know what you want.
