Opioid Constipation

For those who must take opioid painkillers there is a medication that will reverse the effects that opioids cause in the bowels. Opioids that attach to the brain nerve receptors do the same thing in the bowels and MOVANTIK is the medication you need. I am on both Morphine SR and IR and I swear I almost gave birth to a cleveland brown last Sunday. Its not fun whenever you cannot go but hurt horrifically. Movantik stops opioids from attaching itself to the nerves in the bowels but does not effect on what its suppose to do in the brain. Movantik works. The VA of course doesn't have this medication in the formulary but all you have to do is see a private PCP and most of the time they have samples of this medication they will let you try. It works!!!

broncovet I brought this up because if your like me and have lumbar issues then this medication will help take some of the pain away. How? Because if your "packed up" I can promise you your legs will hurt more. If you don't go for days you will end up in more pain. This medication is gold IMHO. I love it!!!

You folks this is a bad one to get and in my experience is sort of a good thing but it does take management and change of diet that is for sure.  Usually I have the other problems when I have to b line it to the stall.  It seems for the most part once you get the diet and timing down you are good to go, however, DO NOT let this become a problem.  Obviously painful but can lead to serious, threatening issues.

Have any of you folks had luck with a specific diet or cocktail of meds.   I take a combo of fiber, stool softeners, and diet modifications along with a specific formula of water intake and diet when my medication and pain fluctuate. At times it can be a booger to get the right treatment going.

If I may, Movantik, I haven't dealt with this one specifically. How has it been working for you rpowell?

What has your VA Specialist RX'd for the problem?

I've had (2) different VA Dr's write RX,s for non VA Formulary Meds, based on either adverse side-effects or the drugs failure to deliver the necessary result. The VA Pharmacist signs off on the RX and you receive it in the mail, same as your other meds.

I haven't had your problem since surgery in 06, Vasaleen and a rubber glove was all I had. Thank God for the Vasaleen. Good thing I love prunes, have kept me right since.

Sometimes, a Tight Axx, while being nice to look on the opposite sex,  can be a pain to have.

I have seen the TV commercials from Movantik, but have not tried it yet. I did try a new anti-constipation med called Linzess and it was so effective that I could not leave the house.
