Psych and General C&P exams tomorrow

Rate this question

Question

Tomorrow I am scheduled for 2 C&P exams..Psych and General...I am applying for MDD/Anxiety secondary to my Right knee TKR and Fibro Secondary to the MDD/Anxiety..I have diagnosis for all, all done by the VA...As Im looking through the web to help prepare myself for these C&P's I am having an anxiety attack! Do I need to bring any of my MHV notes from Myhealthvet? And what in the world are Axis on the DBQ? As far as the General exam, which I assume is for the Fibro, I have all but 1 of the trigger points and if you press any of them it is quite obvious! Just wondering if there is anything that is NOT ok to say at the Psych exam...Im not worried about the previous drug use question, I haven't any, but Ive had depression most of my life..it just started getting really bad, enough to go on meds, after my 1st surgery on my SC right knee...then the Anxiety came about after the RTKR..hope this makes sense...I just need some guidance on these exams, and CANNOT wait until they are over!

With the up coming election, maybe the new CIC will be the one to finally hold the VA's feet to the fire. And also drive the push to make the Comp and Pen amount a much more livable figure.

Vync,

Me too, brother, me too.  It's been far too long since anyone with the power and authority actually did something to make the lives of Veterans better.  And I don't mean like COLA better, either.  I'm talking real improvement.  I think the overall budget of the VA should be doubled, with 50% of that increase going to revamping the comp scales.

And I would like to see a national movement, started by "Uncle Sam" to truly honor Veterans.  Far too many civilians think sports and media/entertainment figures are heroes, and the media tends to portray them as such.  But if not for us, defenders of freedom and the American way of life, they would be regular joes, too.

Yes, there are plenty of these stars and such that personally honor Vets, but it's still a fraction.  I remember going to movies, on base, as an Army brat, and then as an AD Marine, where the theaters showed a video montage of U.S. Military might/power with the National Anthem...I think all movie theaters should show that, before the previews.

Veteran's Day should be every day.  The Dough Boys are all gone now, and The Greatest Generation is following them, the Chosin Frozen(and the rest, too) are getting there as well. And Vietnam Veteran's...well, they are EVERYWHERE, and all us that have followed since...We are a tiny fraction of the total population, but have given more than nearly all the rest combined.

I think any establishment that honors Vets everyday should be recognized loudly and publicly.

It's sad when the gov't and those in that, that do care, have to negotiate a VA budget every year, but you never hear of any budget negotiation for any welfare programs. The SS program is prepaid by the SSI retirement recipients, not a welfare benefit, handout or freebie.

OK, I'm off my soap box now.

I truly believe it's the luck of the draw so-to- speak  what type of C&P Examiner we veterans get.

There are two types of examiners in my opinion   one is the veteran friendly examiner who will bend over backwards to help you with your claim,

the other is the quite examiner that is some what agitated when the veteran ask questions or ask if he has this evidence? If not may I present you with it?   that the veteran takes with him to his/her C&P  &  of course the examiner that mentions ''Its not me that makes the decision'' I've had both type.

the latter examiner is usually a sure denial.

Lucky for me I had a Veteran Friendly PTSD Phyistrist examiner   that read my records days before my C&P after she introduced herself and mention why we were there about the C&P she said I have re read your records from your Vietnam Service and I will not be asking you questions about your stressors, the records are very obvious of what took place and I don't won't to open up old memories for you,she said I too am a veteran, I thanked her and I knew right then how my C&P Is going to be.

I did mention to her that I was recently Dx Sleep Apnea and was using a C-pap & the S.A. was Diagnose by the VA, she said she would make a note of that....I mention that I was not sure that had anything to do with my PTSD  I just thought I'd let her know incase it was not in the computer?

I had to answer some  other questions about my child hood and my jobs  why I could not keep a job ect,,ect,, my education ect,,ect,,  one of the last things she mention to me was  I have a few things to put in the computer and you should be hearing from the VA Soon, she got up came over to me and told me to take care of myself and ask me for a hug...I knew then it was a favorable exam,  I did have my doubts at first thinking I didn't have enough medical records for the necessary  evidence  but I guess I did I was awared 70% PTSD  I had figured about 30%to 50% if I was lucky.

Again see the difference in the C&P Examiners!

Buck,

I had the "other type of examiner", the anti-vet type.  Strange thing was, he told me to my face that he reviewed my SMRs, and VAMRs.  But then didn't want to talk about the reason we were there, chronic pain issues...

Yes Andyman I hear that...

I've had examiners do the same thing....and I had a VA Dr C&P Examiner tell me I could go the exam is over after 2 minutes and my C-FILE left open on his desk, I ask if I could take my C-file back to the C&P director  that I didn't like it open like that for everyone to see and read some of my records...I knew I was not allowed to do that  but I let him know I didn't like it...I found out later after a C&P is complete at the VAMC  the C&P Director is suppose to  come up to that clinic and get the C-FILE to take back to his office  the C&P Directors office   to make sure it is sent back to the RO  Because they are suppose to guard that veterans C-File with there life...

This C&P Doc Examiner took my Cfile Back to the Directors office and also he took it home with him before that, he did that to rake me over the coals and mention some stuff that was not about my claim  and I had a lot of trouble with him  but I beat him with a IMO from a  private specialist  with a lot more credentials and degrees than the VA Examiner Dr had...the DRO took my private Dr's opinion over that VA Examiner.

The DRO didn't like the fact that this Examiner did that with my C-File.

but it took a lot of research and hadit members to help me with that claim.  (back in 2002)
