Menieres

Question

Has anyone had success in having menieres service connected?  I have found in my service medical records, complaints of dizziness, vertigo and ear fullness a few times. Once the doctor wrote that it was eustachian tube dysfuction, but no tests were run.  I have had

this off and on for over 20 years but in the last year it has become chronic and debilitating, I thought it was possibly vestibular migraines without the pain because I get  the vertigo, dizziness, ear fullness without migraine pain.  I have a diagnosis from my current

otolaryngologist of menieres and he thinks that the early episodes of dizziness and ear fullness can be from the early symptoms of menieres.   If I file for menieres do you think I have a chance?

Go fot it!  Sounds like a winner to me, especially if the hint of insidious inception of the disease is noted in your SMRs. A good nexus letter from your doctor would be a must.

I helped a lady Navy veteran win her claim for menieres. Her disease was noted on her SMRs and is so bad that she can no longer drive.

I need to see if he will fill out a nexus statement, I have never had anything like that done from a civilian doctor so will need to do my research for sure.  I am almost at the point of not driving, I drive very rarely and only when I am having a very good day.  I rarely leave my house without my husband so it isn't necessary in most cases.   I have days that are so bad I can't do anything for myself, nothing.......and we have small children still so we have a Disney trip planned in December and I told my husband I don't care if you have to put me in a wheelchair, we are going.  They are the ones I feel bad for, with all of my sc crap they really do get screwed.

Everything that you need to know about a nexus letter can be found at usva101.org.

Click on NEXUS LETTER. Print yourself a copy and take it to your doctor, ask for a conforming letter. If you have medicare, medicade or any other outside insurance, use it for the exam and resultant letter. Ask your VA doctor for a letter, or, at least put the diagnosis and any helpful remarks in your record. You can retrieve the record and use it as evidence in your claim.

You just be up front and out right tell the doctor that you need a letter and explain that the VA requires a nexus letter in order to win your claim for your veterans benefits. If you don't have outside insurance then call the doctor's office. Explain what it is that you need and ask for a price for the visit. Just go doctor shopping and expect to pay $85 to $100 for the visit and letter.

Thanks I really appreciate it,I was sent out to see a specialist by va choice, I can go back but will probably have to pay to have him write the letter which isn't a big deal.  I am not sure how the choice stuff gets put in our va medical records?  first time using choice.

The only 2 ($150K + calibration maintenance costs) devices used to verify Meniere's were a flop and the VA  (nor anyone else) does not use them anymore.

Choice is good because you may get better specialized care, and as soon as the VA rep checks off on the report that the VA assigns for you, it is as good as VA approved (with a Nexus of course.)

The crazy thing is that I thought it was vertigo from migraines and this doctor said no, it is separate from my migraines.  The VA neuro did nothing for me, she sent me to pt for a walker :(
