Pes Planus

Question

Hello,

I have a question. I recently filed for Pes Planus and they granted me service connection 0 percent.  My MEPS exam stated pes planus mild asymptomatic, and my exit exam stated pes planus severe asymptomatic.  During my time in service I was given shoe inserts to help with pain from the run and marches and said to have increased pronation. I also have knee and back problems. I want to NOD and file for increase. Do I have a claim? Any help is appreciated.

I am not that filmuar with  Pes Planus claims  but it sounds like you shouLd file a ITF (Intent to file)

read this BVA Decision  it has some regulations in it you may need to get familiar with.

If you have pain, swelling, limited range of motion, and other known symptoms associated with pes planus... then you should file a NOD .

You should see a podiatrist or orthopaedic specialist and have them examine your feet and document your symptoms.

You are going to need  MEDICAL EVIDENCE proving you have symptoms caused by pes planus because they are saying you don't have symptoms, hence the 0% rating..

Asymptomatic means that you have a condition WITHOUT having the symptoms of that condition.

You will have to dispute their evaluation of your condition, "as being asymptomatic", with medical evidence refuting that assessment.

I agree with the comments above.

I have severe pronation and wear braces to do yard work  as well as have custom orthonics in all of my shoes and slippers.

It does not get better, it gets worse. That is how the orthonic people make so much money. A good professionally made insert ( mine cost about 600 bucks, not covered by CHAMPVA or Medicare), usually has to be remade often every 2 years  or so for serious pronation. I am not a vet ,just spent too much time on concrete,in different jobs I had.My podiatrist told me to stay away from Malls....tile on concrete flooring.

Can you scan and attach the decision here as to the Evidence list and their Reasons and Bases for the lowball rating? (Cover your  file #, name, address prior to scanning it.)

I dont know how they rate this but it is more than just a flat foot rating with the pronation.I am not a vet but I think mine would be around the 40% rating if I was a vet..and you obviously have a strong service nexus.

These above are two very good decisions on pes planus by the BVA and hold the rating schedule info.

Thanks for responding Berta. Sorry it took awhile to respond back. I found the copy of the decision letter and have attached it.  My meps exam states mild asymptomatic and my exit physical stated severe asymptomatic.  I have been given inserts by the military and VA which I have stated aren't working.  I am now going to a private podiatrist.
