My husband is 10% service connected for his right ankle. On 11/7 he went to the Dallas VA day surgery for an ankle scope to remove several bone spurs. We arrived at the clinic at 6am and his surgery started at 11, lasted until 1:30, and he was in recovery until 4ish. The surgeon came to me after the surgery to tell me that he was placing an order for crutches and some pain meds. Everything went great. Recovery should have taken about an hour but he was in extreme pain and I was told they would keep a bit longer up there to get that under control. A little after 4 I was called back to the room to see him and get him discharged and the nurse said well, t…

I am up this morning cause I am burning all over. I took 1000 mg niacin pill that I am supposed to take every night before I go to bed to help raise my good cholesterol. I wish that there is something more that I could do to get it to go up. I have read that drinking a couple of glasses of red wine would improve it? Exercise is not an option for me at this particular time.

So....considering everything that has been happening as of late I called the Pt Advocate of the Mental Health Clinic this morning and asked about the procedure for obtaining fee-based care. She told me I have to submit a letter to their Chief and in-turn it will go to the facility Chief to be decided. She then told me that it will likely be disapproved due to budget issues. That was the wrong thing to tell me; or maybe she was just giving me ammunition on purpose. She said if there wasn't anyone at the Dayton VA who could provide care for me, I would be sent to another VA facility....Cincinatti....over an hour away. Uh no. Been there, done that; failed horribly. …

I hope no one experieces what I did in Nov of last year. I have been service-connected for Hypertension for over 16 years and have a total of 170% s/c conditions. I have taken the same Blood pressure medications for over 10 years with controlled Hypertension. For a long while I ws receiving the brand name medication Accupril form the VA, but in my refill in Nov, the pills were the same color, shape and size of the name brand so I did not notice any difference. But, I started having headaches which I attributed to a sinus infection for which I had taken anti-biotics and the infection was cleared, but the headaches continued. I have 2 daughter-in-laws who are registered nur…
