After they (The VA) cured my chronic low back pain with the magic keyboard I consulted with a top spinal specialist in the private sector. The VA diagnosis was minor arthritic changes, normal for someone my age. The private doctor knows about how the VA works. Her diagnosis is moderately severe spinal stenosis and complicated by osteo arthritic narrowing of the root nerve spaces. Private doctors like to explain things to me while they go over the MRI results. I'll be darned, she also says I have evidence of a compression fracture in my distant past. 1970 to be accurate. The VA cured that one too, just recently. Well folks, if the head of the neuro department i…

I told my PCP recently that I had sharp pain that went from under my pectoral muscle @ costal 4 rib to the back of my shoulder blades. I supposed Angina, but I am not a doctor. Here is a slice of an MRI that was taken after my PCP request MRI's. Over 30 MRI slices did not include any detail of the heart or lung area as per this sample. I also have had a claim in for Lung disease with exposure to asbestos, JP-5, and other toxic chemical exposure since 2003. In 1985 the VA radiologist did report that I had old pleural thickening. This Pleural Thickening and other lung symptoms are all symptoms of asbestos exposure. This MRI did point out the DDD, Stenosis, and abdo…

Yesterday I saw one of my VA doctors for a medication check. I told him that clonidine makes me sick. Nausea, complete lack of appetite and ten days without pinching a loaf. Restless legs and lots of uncontrolled pain equals lousy sleep. He said that he prescribed the medication to help me to stop smoking. Since I'm still smoking he increased the dosage. sledge

In one of my recent visits, I noticed that the nurses would triage multiple patients at once. They call you in from the waiting room, two or three at a time. The triage room was setup with two or three computers (with those cheap privacy screens on the monitors), a single set of scales, and a couple of blood pressure units. The nurse asks you all sorts of personal questions, including your full SSN, and also asks why you are there today. By then end of the triage session, I know the name, full SSN, weight, blood pressure, and primary complaint of everyone else in the room, regardless of male or female. This just sounds wrong to me... Anyone else experience this?

I have been changing from Cymbalta (from a civilian M.D.) to Mirtazipine, or Remeron, as prescribed by my VA psychiatrist. I have had a serious increase in nightmares over the last two months as I make the switch and I am also suffering what I call "night terrors", which wake me up screaming, and striking out dangerously with my fists and feet. I also take prazosin and melatonin for nightmare relief and sleep. I am looking for similar stories about Remeron use or Cymbalta withdrawls. Nothing I can find in the literature.

I was refilling my medications on the VA's 'www.myhealth.va.gov' web site and noticed something very unusual. On Monday, they mailed out "CARBIDOPA/LEVODOPA 25/100 TAB". I looked it up 'http://www.drugs.com/mtm/carbidopa.html' and found this is used to treat Parkinson's disease! Drugs.com says it may be used for uses other than what was listed on their page, but I would have at least expected the doctor to tell me something like this... Has anyone else heard of this happening? Should I call my VA PCP or the VA pharmacy and ask about it?

I needed something to take the edge off and I am tired of taking it out on those close to me. I tried going to the gym and working my agression off but it didn't work. The meds lady gave me citalopram to try. Its to early to tell if it works but one side effect is that I can"t spell anymore. Any input is appreciated. Bill

I was wondering and My wife wanted me to ask. i have been really depressed because it seems my life has been turned upside down and I have been depressed because my lifestyle has changed so much in the last couple of years because of the pain from back and legs. I haven't seen a Mental health person yet, but plan to ask to see one when I'm at the VA next week for my C/P exam on other issues. I just seem to sit around and feel like now I getting close to total retirment and I can't do most of the things I used to enjoy. I'm only 55 and now I gaining weight because I can't exercise and I'm not worth a crap at dieting. I can bend over and pick up anything because of the back…
