   My Laptop Went Into "hybernation"

   Dear Fellow Veterans & Friends. My laptop this morning came up with a sign that warned me it was going into hybernation. It shut itself off and has not come back on. When I push the on button the button will light for 4 econds and then shut off. I tried every thing I know and it wont boot up. I dont have it hooked to the internet so I dont think any virus got to it. Can any one tell me how to get it out of hybernation and why it did this. Man what a hassel. I cant figure why they would put such a order into computers. Terry Higgins

   Some FREE software that I have found to be VERY good in protecting against many of the MALWARE problems on the net. AntiVirus: Tried AVG, good, but 'AVAST' is better. Browser:IE ok, but the 'AVANT' shell on top of IE is better; Firefox is better, but some sites are not friendly; Opera is better still. Security Suite:'ewido' is OUTSTANDING. Misc: 'a squared' (EMSI software) does a great job on Trojans, Dialers, Worms and Spyware. 'Spyware Blaster' and the accompanying 'Spyware Guard' add protection against a lot more than just spyware.    Benq FP553 LCD screen/monitor. Worked perfectly on my XP computer. I recently got a new screen (larger) for my XP and took the Benq screen and plugged into my Dell ME desktop computer. Never had this problem with the XP computer. Problem: Every page I go to on my ME computer there is a horizontal bar across bottom. In other words the page does not fill up the screen. When I first plugged in this Benq monitor to ME - some box came up to find drivers (I think) automatically for screen. Screen stated found and monitor works perfectly except for the horizontal bar on bottom. I have tried every button on monitor. Nothing changes the horizontal bar. …

   I am having a problem that I hope one of you can help with. Whenever I email someone and they try to reply to the message they get an error saying that the address they are trying to email is not valid. Instead of my email address showing up on their screen to reply to, they see: (my wife's name@mcmo.net) which is not a valid email address. They can type in my actual address and send me email with no problems, but cannot reply to my messages. I am sure this is probably something simple but I am not exactly what you would call computer literate and could use some help. I use Outlook Express for my email. Thanks in advance.

   This is very strange. I have always been very careful in reference to keeping Windows security, my anti-virus, and my anti-spyware updated as well as running FREQUENT manual scans as well as the daily scheduled automated scans. I delete any emails from unknown sources without opening. I have a good firewall. I change my passwords frequently. Last Wednesday we were gone all day as my husband had a C&P exam scheduled. Saturday morning I ran scans on my computer as it appeared my computer had been logged on during the night. I found SpyAnywhere 2.12.03 and Spytech SpyAgent during the scan.    I see the post windows have changed- ???? I could not seem to edit something and then made two posts of the same thing and couldnt seem to figure out how to delete one of them,---- I am getting used to the board but there are plenty of times I sit down, click on hadit, and then wonder what the heck it all means---- I also have trouble remembering where a topic was- so I diligently search for it ,and of course I usually forget what topic I was searching for anyhow but Nevertheless- I continue to search for it-whatever it was- I know that doesnt make sense- This is from my VA induced PTSD----- I swear -years of dealing with them can alter one's mind!

    I have downloaded from this site: http://tinyurl.com/b6ge7 a linux distribution for UBUNTUlinux, that is the easiest to use LINUX I have ever tried. While the prospect of burning your own CD from an ISO image may deter some, it is very easy. UBUNTU is a bootable linux distro that does NOT interfere with your existing system in any way. The only access you have is to removable storage media, whether floppies, CDs, or Flash Drives etc. Nothing you do can interfere with your existing HDD system. It comes with lots of software, including Firefox browser, and a great GUI too. I love it!

    One of my vets just got $98,000 retro award letter from the VARO- I forget if it was our CUE # 1 (he has 2) or the NOD we sent . He attached the VA letter in a winmail.dat attachment-and is very anxious as to what it says. even if I open it I cannot read it- It does come out fairly well in Vietnamese- but my kid isnt home from work-and is doing special project -and is very busy- so I cant email it to her to translate it. Any suggestions? I opened with Micro Office and then regular Word but cannot read.
