Personality Disorder Not Otherwise Specified
It is a sign of the inadequacy of our current knowledge of personality disorders that both the American Diagnostic and Statistical Manual (DSM) and its international counterpart, the ICD, maintain a "Personality Disorders Not Otherwise Specified (NOS)" diagnostic category. It is a catch-all, meaningless, "diagnosis", a testament to the diagnostician's helplessness and ignorance in the face of human complexity which often defies neat classification. Even the rudiments of this diagnostic category are in dispute. There is no agreement as to what traits and behaviors it applies to. The ICD, for instance, includes the Narcissistic Personality Disorder in the NOS category, i…

diabetes Tinnitus Claim.
I was a USMC Combat Engineer (tunnel rat) in Viet Nam and had both of my eardrums blown out while setting off a satchel charge on Operation Orange 1966. I was medivaced for this to Okinawa for treatment. I have had constant ringing in both of my ears from this for almost 40 years. I had tried to make a claim on this back in the early 70's with the VA and they gave me zip, zero, nada. I put in for another compensation claim for agent orange (Diabetes) about three years ago and was granted that one for 20%, at the same time I re-applied for the tinnitus and a hearing loss. Once again they gave me zip, zero, nada, even though I was told I had an 18% hearing loss…

Class Action Vets Lawsuit
Courtesy of Charles Kelley: http://www.2ndbattalion94thartillery.com/C...etsforSense.htm Part 4 of the VA memo is good- the General Counsel is making sure nothing gets lost or destroyed- but how come we -as claimants -can't get that assurance but the VA is preparing for this litigation and must retain all pertinent records for this lawsuit. The VA apparnently is taking all this very seriously.

Old Claim
I was looking at old paperwork(VA)tonight, in 1994 they gave me a c&p where they were evaluating my residuals from a 1988 stroke they mentioned some memory loss.In 1996 I had a hearing for another claim the hearing finally got to the residuals of the stroke(1988)the hearing official agreed that another issue of the stroke, is the memory loss.to quote him"ill look into it and see that it is covered" well obviously my memory is bad since i never remembered! What can i do now? Im an old texan who lives by my word and i think the VA should also,so i want to correct this.

Sleep Apnea Secondary To Sc Asthma?
I developed sleep apnea several years after I retired from the Army. I now use a CPAP and I think my level/volume on the CPAP is 18, which is fairly high. I have a claim pending for SC asthma (it has been rated, but I have not been officially notified of the results). Question: Is sleep apnea an asthma-related (i.e. secondary) disability? My asthma presented itself during my military career (documented), continued during the first 12 months of my retirement (documented) and continues to this day (documented). I should add that I have "grown" substantially since 1991 and I understand obesity is the primary cause of sleep apnea. Even I find it hard to believe…

hypertension Hypertension As Secondary To Diabetes -essential In Nature
Last year I submitted a claim for hypertension as secondary to the service connected disability of diabetes mellitus, type 2 with dietary restrictions. The claim was denied. In the reasons for decision the VA examiner stated he feels my hypertension is most likely ESSENTAIL IN NATURE. Could someone tell me what "essential in nature" means? Thanks, Ruffcreek

Protecting Taxpayers...is This The New Spin?
I recently saw the USAJobs Web site showing some regions advertising for rating specialists (or whatever they're called now). The ad says the job duties include "...serving our nation's veterans and protecting taxpayers." So now we know, when bobbyq got his reasons and bases for denial as "shrapnel injuries not service connected," someone was trying to protect the taxpayers. Now we know...800,000 backlogged claims is all about protecting taxpayers.

Max Income
I am currently at 50% combined and am seeking an increase. What is the maximum amount you can earn a year if you reach 100%? Can someone tell me what VA policy or code this is under. I am interested to know if "earned" income is the key or any income. I receive a non-taxable disablity retirement from a former employer. This money is reportable on my taxes but does not get counted as taxable income. Any help on this matter would be great. Detonator
