Copd Question
I had a pulmonary test and it came back moderate restrictive lung defect. I had an xray which shows a vague new nodular density measuring 4mm in the right upper lobe and have a CT scan scheduled. Currently 10% HBP and 10% heart condition. Do I have grounds for any other claims?

Great News For
We protested a potential closing of this facility years ago and Principi kept it open- It IS one of the finest Mental Health VAMCs around. This is VERY good news for many vets I know who go to this VA. It is further for me than the Bath VA but the ride along Lake Canadaigua is very beautiful and -as I recall- the parking at this VAMC is good. Some vets told me their food isnt bad either. This is GREAT NEWS. ptsd Buddy Letter?
Berta, I have been in contact with a Marine who I carried out of an impact range at Camp Pendleton. He and a friend were blown up by dud ordnance. He was a patient I picked up as an EMT in 1975 but we were not in the same unit. He was in artillery in HQ 11th Marines and I was attached at the time to NavRegMedCtr CamPen. Could a letter from him benefit me at my DRO hearing for non-combat PTSD? He was unconcious when I picked him up and aside from keeping him alive, we share no other history. He got out of the Corps later because he lost an eye in the explosion. The other man died from his wounds. Thanks, Doc Johnny K.

Iris Reply !
What is up with this reply anyway. 2 weeks ago [i think,] I had sent a query to Iris for a status report on my sons claim and was told that they were trying to determine if another C&P exam was needed to help determine the claim. WE then talked to my son's SO who went upstairs and pulled my son's file and showed these people that there is UNREFUTABLE MEDICAL EVIDENCE in the file that he continues to have phlebotomy treatments monthly for his already service connected blood cancer and doing this exam is frivolous and a waste of time. They agreed to take the file to a rating specialist to see if it was ready to rate. Today Iris is still saying the same thing about a…

Reconsideration
Can you ask for a reconsideration without new evidence? The claim that I had denied this week was one for IBS. In an earlier post I was having problems with another vets claim for IBS now mine. I served in Saudia Arabia and Kuwait during GW1 and IBS is presumptive. My original claim asked for SC on a presumptive bases. My C/P doc stated that my IBS was due to an unknown cause. The rating denied the claim on the basis that no record of the IBS was found in the SMR's. No joke my little VA buddies. You are right it ain't in there cause it did not exist during my active service. They simply blew off my request for presumptive service connection. I would like to …

Vietnam Service Verified
I have a document initiated by the Veterans Administration Medical Center to the Veterans Administation Regional Office. VA form 10-7131. In the remarks section it states (top of form block 6) " Vet claiming agent orange exposure. States he was stationed in Nakhon Phanom Thailand. States they sprayed Agent Orange around the perimeter of the basse, which is located 4 miles from the Ho Chi Mihn Trail". The VARO replied back to the VAMC " Birls shows VADS verified." (BIRLS and VADS are data bases) "Records also show Veteran has Vietnam Service". I also have via a Freedom of Information Act request have Birls Veteran Information data screen report showing Vietnam Se…

Incompetent Vets
I hope I have been quick to point out here over the years that VA "incompetence" findings do not mean some estranged cousin you never see can come in and get your stuff. True incompetence is a legal finding by a court and a judge- in VA's case I always felt it was a good way to protect vets from being taken advantage of-and usually the spouse handles the money as the VA appointed fiduciary anyhow- (and probably always handled the family income and debts before the VA comp too) I felt it was a good idea until today- http://vawatchdog.org/07/nf07/nfAUG07/nf081507-6.htm It looks like the fiduciaries for these vets -in this news story -who go through some sort …

When Do They Take Your Money?
I posted here quite some time ago about the VA taking money back out of my bank account for my husband's final check. I thought they had taken it. But they still haven't. They placed a HOLD of the funds on my account (or probably more appropriately, they tried to place a hold on our joint account - and since that was closed the BANK placed a hold on MY account) - but they still haven't taken the money. The hold was placed May 20, 2007. The hold is still there - and the bank says it will stay there until the VA either takes the money or releases the hold. It seems odd that they would hold the money so long without taking it. And it also aggravates me that they …

Aid & Attendence
Greetings, I have been helping a veteran with his claim for A&A. He received his award letter today stating that he had been granted A&A, however there was no award amount or any regards to the retro date. I have never seen anything like this. He has a call in to the VARO, however but he could not get a decent answer. I contacted our RO and ask a simmuliar question, and I got that he will be receiveing his award amount in another letter that might take 30 days to receive. He informed me that is how the VA are doing things now. This vet has 7 dependents and currently gets around $3,800.00 per month. He is rated at 100% Loss of use of both feet plus SMC fo…
