1 in 3 PACT Act Claims Have Received a 0% Disability Rating, Prompting a VA Review
Recent interesting article from Military.com news site. " The Department of Veterans Affairs has approved nearly 80% of the 570,000 claims it has adjudicated under the PACT Act, distributing more than $2.2 billion in disability compensation to veterans or survivors since it began accepting claims last year. Of the total claims, however, 34% have received a 0% disability rating, meaning that affected veterans have at least one service-connected condition under the law that is not disabling -- for example, hypertension, which has been linked to Agent Orange exposure, that is controlled by medication. The VA is now reviewing its ratings schedu…

VA Evidence Gathering
To support my disability claims, I have submitted medical reports (e.g., biopsies, xrays, etc.) to the VA using their online systems. I've often wondered though, does the VA ever go directly to your doctor for information, rather that get it from the vet? Just curious. Thanks! Max 🇺🇸

"Active Surveillance" for Low Grade Prostate Cancer
Prostate Cancer is an Agent Orange presumptive illness. My neighbor (a Vietnam vet) was diagnosed with prostate cancer and his urologist has him on "active surveillance." Consequently, he is not getting treatment yet. Instead, he has frequent tests, with surgery or radiation postponed until the disease warrants more aggressive measures. The VA placed the vet on 100% disability. He wonders, "Will the VA keep him at 100% while he remains on active surveillance?" My understanding is that the answer is yes. But I wanted to ask vets on this forum for their input. Thanks in advance for your advice! Max

Hemochromatosis as a VA disability?
Back in the late 80s early 90s when I was 30-35 I would try to donate at our employers Blood Bank and would be turned away as being anemic (low iron). In 2000 on a fluke job change physical, at Kaiser Permanete in San Diego, Dr. Vincent Felitti a renowned physician and hemochromitosis expert at the time, just so happened to randomly screen my blood for feritin (iron) levels and was diagnosed with hemochromitosis. For about 15 yrs I did quarterly phebotomies. Now 8 yrs later my VA oncologist says my bloodwork shows feritin, thus my hemochromatosis, is under control. My best friend never knew he had it until he was 50 and needed a hear, liver and kidney, transplants. He die…

What Does This Mean?
The VA is processing my claim. Under "Evidence Gathering, Review and Decision" they wrote: We closed the notice for Exam Request - Processing. Does this mean there won't be an exam as part of the evidence gathering? Thanks! Max
