My Father was awarded pension benefits approximately 16 months prior to his death in December 2009. However, because the VA determined that a convervator was needed--and because of the slowness of the process--a conservator was never actually appointed and no benefits were paid out before his death. My question is: who gets the accrued benefits? From my research on the VA website, it appears that the benefits would go to the children in equal shares (all children are grown with their own families and there is no surviving spouse). My problem with this is that under my Father's will, the children did not receive equal shares and one child was completely disinherit…

Anyone have a ballpark estimate on the amount of time it takes to get awarded a non service connected disability pension? I'm disabled according to Social Security and get SSI payments. I've got periphereal arterial disease. I've sent in all the medical records they asked for (sent them certified mail/return receipt). I know the amount of time varies-just looking for some time estimates to keep my hopes up. It sucks trying to get by on SSI. Thanks for any help. Ron

Do…

Hi everyone! I'm currently receiving SSI for peripheral arterial disease, couldn't get SSDI-not enough current work credits. I"ve applied for a VA Pension-non service connected disability. Just wondering what happens with SSI when the VA sends me a lump sum payment. I know the money will be counted as income, but do they adjust my SSI monthly check by a certain amount for a certain length of time? Thanks for any help. Ron :o

If a Veteran is receiving a VA pension due to poverty and is enrolled/receiving for health care as a Category 5 veteran, how will having additional income impact his eligibility for VA health care? 66 year old Vietnam era vet Social Security is currently his only other income. Enrolled as a Category 5 and is receiving a huge amount of VA health care with no co-pays. He might have opportunity in the future to earn some money. If he does, in fact, earn some money will he lose his Category 5 and be reduced to Category 8? He realizes his pension will be reduced dollar for dollar by whatever he earns, but he is extremely nervous about losing his access to health car…

Form VBA 21-527. This is the pension form that you fill out if you are waiting for a Service Connected claim that is in process. VBA_21_527_ARE.pdf Form VBA 21-526 is used for Non-Service Connected Veterans Pension. There may be a newer copy of the 21-626 http://www.hadit.com/forums/index.php?act=...post&id=725

Thanks for this board. By reading I found out about NSC. Would my spinal anomalies which are congenital and denied by VA, but granted by SSA as fully favorable, Could that be use for NSC? I am a twenty two year retired veteran, with spouse working also. I can't seem to find the allowable income limit. I am under sixty five. Served in desert storm. I am rated at 40%, and working with my VA Dr. on PTSD. Would this compensation be for me? Or should I use it as a last resort?

I am writing this for my father who was in vn and has developed Parkinson's due to exposure for AO. Due to it just recently being associated with AO and Parkinson's, do I need to help him to refile his paperwork to get an upped coverage? Also if anyone knows this as well. Since it is now connected, is there some way for him to get backpay for the 20+ years he has lived with it? He is just now 62 so it hit him early on. I appreciate any help on this! Good to know there is a place to go when you need to discuss this stuff. Big Pat

Hi, thanks in advance for taking the time to read and/respond...my prior AD ARMY spouse applied for A+A DEC2007, it was denied the first time around and immediately appealed. Then it was approved w/ an official letter approx. Apr2009. Long story short am active duty and down range, but will be going on leave shortly and have a meeting w/ the VA rep who came by the house earlier. Was told it's not necessary to bring the veteran to the appt. since she was already seen. Her family helps her and was left w/ contact info I needed to follow up on upon my return. What I'd like to know is the following: 1) What is the appt for w/ the VA field rep? is it to determine more med…
