"hip Hip Hooray" And Let Me Say It Again 'hip Hip Hooray"...my Dic Deposit Showed Up In My Bank Account!
I had this feeling that I needed to go online and check my bank balance this morning....and THERE IT WAS- MY DIC RETRO!! I am so excited and this has taken so much off of me. I just want to dance! Now, as soon as I know that the monies are not going anywhere, I will apply it all towards my car balance. Rockman bought me a new car the end of December 2011. This is the first new car that we have ever bought. You see Rockman wanted to make sure that I had a reliable car to drive and that I would not need a new car for a long long time.He was always thinking of me, not himself. The new Ford was just a tad bit more than a used car with mileage. This payment will bring my balan…

Dic Link For New Member
The whole 9 yards on DIC should be in this link: http://www.va.gov/opa/persona/dependent_survivor.asp We have expanded on describing these types of claims in this forum. The most common form of DIC these days ( Inservice death cases are handled differently by the DOD) is DIC due to a service connected condition causing death or contributing to death. The contributing factor has to be substantial and is usually the second paragraph on a death certificate after the immediate cause of death. Also BVA cases regarding DIC show how the different types of DIC work. Certainly not all deats of veterans can garner a DIC award for a spouse. There are als…

Obtaining Letter From Va Verifying Receipt Of Dic Benefits?
During recent contact with my local property tax office, I discovered that my 91 year old mother would be entitled to an exemption on all of her property taxes if she could provide a letter from the VA showing she was receiving DIC benefits from the VA as a result of her first husband being killed in action in World War II. Georgia law states that the unremarried spouse of a military service member killed in action is entitled to a 100% exemption on the property taxes on their home and up to 10 acres of land. At first I was not sure if she was entitled to the property exemption because she had remarried after her first husband was killed. However, her second husband (…

Va Disability Ratings Subject Of House Hearing
Thought the following may be of interest. All have a nice weekend. --------------------- WASHINGTON, DC – The Subcommittee on Disability Assistance and Memorial Affairs of the House Committee on Veterans’ Affairs held a hearing yesterday afternoon on issues related to the Department of Veterans Affairs’ (VA) 100 percent temporary disability rating. According to a report by the VA Office of the Inspector General (OIG), the 100 percent temporary disability rating is not being reevaluated in a majority of cases, which results in overpayments. The report estimated that these overpayments would cost VA $1.1 billion dollars over the next five years. -----------…

Power Of Attorney- What The Crap!?!
I am so confused. David (Rockman passed away on 09/02/12 and I filed for my DIC on 10/26/12 & the Va Nashville received the claim on 11/02/12. A couple of weeks ago I received a letter stating that they were still processing my claim. I thought well- I should be awarded my long due DIC, but knew that I did have to deal with getting it in "VA's time frame"! So, now I will have more retro and that is a good thing. Now it comes to today. I called the State VSO for them to check on how it was going and he looked it up. He said that it had something about Power of Attorney and was he was not sure. He was going to fax over to then everything and then call them. He was …

Oh! No! I Forgot And Never Noticed Line 23B On My 534 Form
As I have posted before, Milwaukee received my 534 form on 11/02/12. I knew that I would have to wait a long while before I heard anything at all- even a small peep. So far I have not even received the VCAA letter telling me if there was any additional information that they might need. When I called the 800# about two weeks ago, she did an IRIS inquiry. Okay, I know now it takes some time before you get a response. Well, yesterday Milwaukee called and said they had a question for me that I had left one question blank. I listed how many times David had been married and also me. The part that had date marriage ended-I put 09/02/12. Then where it had how marriage ended-I …

First On Cnn: Panetta To Recommend Pay Cut For Military
Just days before he leaves office, Defense Secretary Leon Panetta is recommending military pay be limited, effectively decreasing troop salary next year. Panetta will recommend to Congress that military salaries be limited to a one percent increase in 2014. The Pentagon has calculated that the 2014 Employment Cost Index (ECI) from the Labor Department is expected to be above one percent, but wants to still cut back on pay due to “budget uncertainties,” one department official told CNN. In 2013, a 1.7 percent increase was approved, based on the ECI, which has been the basis for military pay for the last several years. Three Pentagon officials have confirmed details …
