Dic Question
Assume a boots on the ground Vietnam veteran had agent orange presumptive IHD but did not file a IHD disability claim prior to his death from a heart attack. Also, assume the veteran had another service connected disability rated at 100% P&T less than 10 years prior to his death. Is there anyway his surviving spouse could qualify for DIC as a result of his death due to his IHD? Your input is appreciated. Georgiapapa...

Getting A Dic Claim Status
I used to use IRIS for a status of any pending claims. However, some of my IRISes went unanswered. Still it is often a good way to get a status of a DIC claim. Unfortunately widows.widowers cannot use ebenefits but if you call 1-800-827-1000 and click on the #1 first when prompted and then click on # 7 for ebenefits, -if you actually get a person, tell them you are a widow and cannot use ebenefits and they can give you a status on your claim. The 800# is often very busy to include the # 7 access to ebenefits but -if you call 'after hours' as the VA 800# robot says, at the # 7 ebenefits thing, you can acquire an appointment time in which hopefully VA will cal…

Confused-Dic And Figuring Out My Net Worth Portion
I understand that you have to list all monies in cash, bank accounts,CD's, retirement plans, stocks, bonds etc. Then this is what we can deduct to get the net worth: I was told that I needed to get the following: Itemize a list of both of our medical expenses from 09/29/11 (date Rockman was considered 100% P&T) to one year from that date. Health Insurance premiums Also the VSO said that they would deduct the amount that our house was appraised at. This does not seem to be correct. On page 5 of the 21-534, it has this: "VA cannot pay you pension if your net worth is sizeable. Net worth is the market value of all interest and rights you have in any kind of prope…

2013 Cola Raise
hope this is of interest. House Approves 1.3 Percent COLA Increase for Disabled Veterans Earlier this month, the 2013 cost of living allowance (COLA) increase for veteran disability benefits passed by unanimous vote in the House of Representatives, and now awaits a vote in the Senate. If passed, disabled veterans will receive the same increase in COLA as Social Security and retired military beneficiaries, an expected 1.3 to 1.9 percent bump, with the final calculation to be determined in October. http://www.veteransu...abled-veterans/

tdiu Dic Pow Survivor Regs
I know this is here at hadit somewhere but it might pay to post it again. POWs and their survivors come under a different criteria then other veterans in some respects: As to DIC: “The major benefit is Dependency and Indemnity Compensation (DIC) which is a monthly benefit payable to the surviving spouse (and the former POW’s children and parents in some cases) when the former POW: was a service member who died on active duty; or died from service-related disabilities; or died on or before September 30, 1999 and was continuously rated totally disabled for a service connected condition (including individual unemployability) for at least 10 years immediately pre…

Filing For Survivor Ss Questio
I have a question and would like someone's advice. Thank you My 60th birthday is in January and I have read that it's best to apply for my deceased husband's SS a few months before my 60th birthday to give SS time to process. I receive SS disability and also receive DIC as he was a disabled veteran at this time. My question is: I have all my documents I require except the following Deceased worker's W-2 forms or federal self-employment tax return for the most recent year. Since I already receive SS disability (I already draw from his retirement) will I be required to have his W-2 forms or tax return. The SS did not ask me for his W-2 or tax return when I …

Dic Question . . .
I started this claim many yrs ago for my wife (now ex) and her mother. Her father died of an aneurysm on 1/1/69. He was an ROTC, reserve officer and had served a yr in Korea in 1964-65, or thereabouts and was released from actice duty around 1966, but had reserve duty. Reserve officers are never actually discharged from the military unless they specificall request it. He requested a discharge and was discharged around Oct or Nov 1968. SC for an aneurysm can be attained if it happens within one yr of discharge. When he died they denied his widow SC and DIC. I started a CUE claim yrs ago but never followed up due to a messy divorce. Anyway, does anyone feel she h…
