VA Scandals
Shreddergate and other scandals
On the 13th of October, 2008, VA Watchdog dot Org broke the story about documents found in shredder bins at the VA's Detroit Regional Office.
A number of those documents were critical to veterans' disability claims.
As the story unfolded, VA finally began to release information on the incident and we learned that more than one Regional Office was involved in this shredder scandal.
The VA's Office of Inspector General (VAOIG) is investigating.
VA has instituted new guidelines regarding handling of documents.

"September 9, 2014 The top watchdog for the Veterans Affairs Department said Tuesday that it appears that the majority of the 93 VA facilities now under investigation were intentionally manipulating data, which could lead to a fresh round of drama for the embattled agency. Richard Griffin, the acting VA inspector general, told members of the Senate Veterans' Affairs Committee that his staff believes that no manipulation occurred in about a fourth of the facilities under investigation, but "on the other three-fourths, we're pretty confident that it was knowingly and willingly happening, and we're pursuing those." In part the article also states: "Asked why the problem…

Somewhat troubling allegations considering the BVA is supposed to be the place where our claims get some actual attention when the VARO refuses to be reasonable or give due process. Maybe this too will change because of exposure to the public. Fingers crossed. http://www.navytimes.com/article/20140910/NEWS05/309100060/Mismanagement-alleged-VA-appeals-board

Crucial language that the Department of Veterans Affairs inspector general could not “conclusively” prove that delays in care caused patient deaths at a Phoenix hospital was added to its final report after a draft version was sent to agency administrators for comment, the Washington Examiner has learned. http://washingtonexaminer.com/ig-let-veterans-affairs-officials-alter-report-to-absolve-agency-in-deaths/article/2553035

I ran across this while listening to the controversial Michael Berry radio show the other day. He interviewed Regina Brown, a Veteran who was covered with ticks while in the field during basic training in 1991. The military doctor removed the ticks, but never put her on antibiotics. Over the years, docs thought she had eczema, but she was eventually diagnosed with cancer. After her private insurance ran out, she turned to the VA. That's when the real problems began... Former Phoenix Chief tries to commit suicide: In Part: "Former Phoenix VA chief of health care threatened suicide yesterday and was tazered by local police in his home following his recent termination for corruption and fraud linked to veteran deaths in the phony VA wait list scandal. Brad Curry, former Chief of Health Administration at Phoenix VA, was terminated last month following the explosive national scandal that VA employees had inflicted manslaughter by killing veterans by manipulating wait times for urgently needed health care – and even collected 5-figure bonuses for their criminal scheme. I sure have been waiting for this !!!!!!!!!! "Still dissatisfied with the Department of Veterans Affairs response to questions about how many veterans suffered death and injury from delays in medical treatment and diagnoses at VA medical facilities around the country, the House Veterans Affairs Committee has widened the scope of its inquiry." "On Aug. 4, U.S. Rep. Jeff Miller, the committee chairman, wrote a letter to VA Secretary Robert McDonald demanding to know the results of the VA’s review of 250 million consultations dating back to 1999." "Miller is seeking the dates of each delayed consultation and resulting death and injury, and the locations where the delay…
