Researchers Think They've Found the Cause of Gulf War Illness
https://www.military.com/daily-news/2022/05/17/researchers-think-theyve-found-cause-of-gulf-war-illness.html?ESRC=mr_220523.nl Just saw this. It sheds some light which the VA will likely say needs to be peer reviewed for the next 20 years. But what about other veterans who did not serve directly in theater? Did they also develop the same weaker variant of the gene which helps to digest pesticides or was it a strange coincidence?...

VA Press Release 10-27-21 Persian Gulf War veterans
Thank you to anyone here who joined me in commenting on this proposed regulation at the Federal Register web site in the past open comment period. I posted this news here before but it pays to repeat as it is now a formal regulation: "VA extends presumptive period for Persian Gulf War Veterans WASHINGTON — The Department of Veterans Affairs has extended the presumptive period to Dec. 31, 2026 for qualifying chronic disabilities rated 10% or more resulting from undiagnosed illnesses in Persian Gulf War Veterans to ensure benefits established by Congress are fairly administered. If an extension of the current presumptive period was not implemented, s…

Skin condition
So the VA is saying my Dercums disease and scaring have the same issues as they both cause pain in the skin. So in my last rating they stated I had not maxed out the rating. I don't understand what this is as I am at 60% under general. How can i go any higher on this rating as I feel this condition is by far the worst?

Gulf War Illness
For +10 years, I have been rated at 40% for fibromyalgia as a presumptive to my service is SW Asia. I completed Gulf War registry, etc over a decade ago. I have also been being treated for years for unexplained hives/dermatitis as well as disturbed sleep (no apnea, but no REM sleep). I have been having headaches for years, but about a year ago was diagnosed with migraines and prescribed medications that I continue to take. My question is, can I file for migraines as part of the "undiagnosed illness" presumptive to my SW Asia service, or am I not allowed to because I am already diagnosed and compensated for fibromyalgia? Thank you.

CFS
A noncompensable evaluation is assigned from November 15, 2019. Service connection has been established from the day VA received your formal application on February 19, 2013. Your claim has been continuously pursued. They assigned a 0 percent evaluation and deferred for: VA medical opinion. I have a C&P exam this week. The question I'm asking if I get 10%-100% would they back pay me from March 2013 for what ever the percent they rate me at.

Gulf War Veteran in 1995?
Good Evening, I have a question in regards to who qualifies as a Gulf War Veteran being able to claim certain issues under the presumptive criteria. I read that in order to have Gulf War Syndrome or to be diagnosed with "un-diagnosed illnesses" related to the Gulf War that you would of had to been part of Desert Shield, Desert Storm etc., and those that served in the Gulf during 1991. How about those that were in the Gulf in 1995. I have a friend that was on the USS Belleau Wood in 1995. They were part of Operation United Shield helping safeguard those exiting Somalia. He was given pills to take during his month there that caused very bad stomach issues that hav…

Idiopathic Thrombocytopenia/ Idiopathic Thrombocytopenic Purpura
I've been reading and trying to find resources for this condition. I just got hit with it out of the blue and it landed me in the hospital for 8 days or so. It got real serious and quite scary when they were talking about removing organs and constant blood and platelet transfusions. As there is no known specific cause for this disease it is difficult to research. Has anyone who has been to SW Asia, 2007-2008, had any problems with coming down with this? If so what treatment path did you take and how are you managing with the choices you made.

Menstual Issues For Gulf War Vets
Does anyone have any information on what is meant by menstrual disorders listed as a presumptive injury with persian gulf veterans. The reason I ask is that I was recently awarded my persian gulf claim but for only a few items listed. They did not address the menstrual issue listed. However, I have a second claim that dates back a few years prior to my gulf war claim for the menstraul long before it became a presumptive injury. It was denied and is on appeal at the BVA, but again this is before the presumptive injury came out and it is on the list. In my case, I have a history in my military record of menstrual issues that started after the gulf, eventually leading into a…

ME/CFS- Gulf. Service connection without presumption
We are currently in the process of applying. In the three steps we have perfect for 1 and 3 but struggling with the service connect. We have the diagnosis moderate/severe with many doctors over many years, almost textbook. We have a timeline And progression that clearly points to something happening during the summer/fall of 2002. I’ve been declining/progressing for over a decade until the point if severity. I had to leave my full time job in the summer of 2018. The issue, and my question, is that in reading anything on ME/CFS or Gulf the VA tends to go on presumption of being in the gulf but medical research shows that there are much stronger theories that d…

Nexus letter for Hives due to Toxic Exposures
Hello all. I am seeking any knowledge or advice on my current claim. I conducted a video conference with a law judge on October 11th, 2019. I am seeking a claim for chronic idiopathic urticaria(hives) that I've been battling for close to 28 years. I conducted (2) Persian Gulf War clinical studies and evaluations at Walter Reed back in the early 90's. The file acknowledges that I have this chronic illness but I lack a nexus letter or imo. The judge found my testimony to be very credible and identified a treatment for dermatitis while I was in service. I also sought medical treatment on the private side, Dermatologist, immunologist, and internist, with the same chro…

Re-Opening a 2016 GWI claim - Fibromyalgia DBQ
So, before I knew much about the VA and their love for vets, I submitted my first GWI claim. I filed for symptoms (Stomach issues, sleeplessness, bi lateral arm/shoulder pain, short term memory loss). I had a forgetful C&P doc, I had no idea beforehand what the eam was for, I was nervous as shit and I didn't know enough to press him on examining other issues. I went 26 years without touching the VA and here I was at a C&P exam. I was rated 30% for IBS, all other contentions denied because dr said I denied having any other issues. This week I was diagnosed by a family practice NPC with fibromyalgia, they ordered bloodwork to exclede Rheumatoid Arthritis a…

Fibromyalgia
I served in the Persian Gulf during Desert Shield and Desert Storm. I have been recently diagnosed with Fibromyalgia/ Myofascial syndrome by two seperate nurse practioners one of them being my primary care provider and the other in the pain clinic. My primary care provider filled out a Disability Benefits Questionnaire where she stated by pain was not responding to treatment and that her opinion that it was least as likely as not related to my service in the Persian Gulf and exposure to possible environmental causes. I have filed a claim with my VSO and still waiting on a decision. My primary care provider has completed all the blood work to rule out other causes such…

Gwi Approved, Migraines Denied
Hello All, Here's the background on the claim for fellow GWI vets, and some questions... I recently received the approval on the first claim for GWI, awarded 30%. This was an FDC that I filed with assistance of a VSO, so there were likely some errors made in the initial application. (I hadn't found this site yet and have since learned the error of my ways...) But at the end of the day it's a win, with 2 1/2 yrs of retro. No big payday though, as I have to pay back a tidy little sum of SSB from 20 yrs ago. VERBATIM from the Decision Letter: "Gulf War undiagnosed illness to include dizziness, short term memory loss, impaired gait, loss of balance and …

Questions on new gulf war claim
Sorry in advance for length of post. Getting ready to file: Gulf War 1 vet. Have diagnosis and VA DBQ form from Civilian Dr for Fibromyalgia. Also looking to file for PTSD, Tinnitus and flat foot (flat foot issue happened in basic, figured toss it in). Only have diagnosis for Fibro. Is it ok to file pending the VA med/psych exams for the others. Also, I have severe insomnia issues that are a combination from pain from the fibro, nightmares assoc with the PTSD issues and old fashion staring at the walls for hours insomnia. Can/Should I file for insomnia secondary to the Fibro and/or PTSD now or wait until when/if the other items are approved first? Thanks for any advice!

To all of my Sisters and Brothers with this disease. For all of those who have fought this in the past, there is a light at the end of the tunnel. I wanted to get this out as I am in my appeal stage and just realized the verbiage on this has changed and the diagnostic code to better address the issues. The diagnostic code I was given is 7819-7821. The Skin Basic Rating System The Basic Rating System below is used to rate many (but not all) of the skin conditions on this page. Find your condition first to see if it is rated under this system. It is vital that you understand how the VA defines systemic and topical treatments in order to determine your corre…

Iraq vet Burn pit/ Oil fire award
https://www.va.gov/vetapp16/Files6/1645861.txt This is the same form of cancer I posted a link to in the AO forum today to clarify John Mc Claim's cancer as described by Ben Krause. Glioblastoma is not a presumptive to AO regulations or to Gulf War regulations. However, evidence is everything as the widow in the AO link and this veteran, as well, succeeded. NOTHING is Impossible. This vet had solid and proactive representation from their vet rep-------.........something we usually have to do for ourselves.
