I saw my primary care doctor today at Temple Texas Medical Center... .the nurse got into a conversation with me and my wife about the direction VA Health care appears to be taking.. In her opinion, based on all she has seen and talking to her Union.. VA seems to be setting itself up to go private... She said this has been in the works for some time.... and is based on cost and savings analysis .. Guess we have to wait and see.

Today while at the home oxygen clinic in the Temple Texas VA... I was informed that the VA is going to start issuing portable oxygen concentrators in about 3 months. Previously, the VA would only contract for Oxygen Tanks ... they are coming into the modern world. So any veteran that needs oxygen should consider this service, as in most cases the service will be free. I like Free, especially since I am service connected for my lungs and for the last 12 years I have been getting portable oxygen concentrators thru Medicare/Tricare, and the local provider doesn't care how slow they are when it comes to providing replacement equipment, as long as they are being paid.. This …

In 30 days, from enrollment, I have had my initial appointment, a disappointment, then after some research and a few phone calls, I think I found the answer. See a social worker before your appointment if possible, or at a minimum ask to see the social worker ASAP. Ask a lot of questions, get a lot of answers. Have a list of what you want FROM the doctor, don't wait for him to offer anything, you will run out of time. When my questions were interpreted as a complaint, I got to talk to a social worker and I was set up for the 9 referrals that I wanted to start off with. Two of them are actually set up as appointments now and another 4 or so show up on MyH…

I am in the Oregon VA system, and before that was in the San Diego VA system. When I changed to Oregon several years ago, I asked for a primary care doctor, clinic, closer to my home. I ended up with a doctor 75 miles away. meanwhile the VA opened a new clinic 20 miles from my home in Salem. MY doctor I have at this clinic further away is good to me. he has a back ground in one of my major illnesses, pancreatic and liver diseases. he treats me well, and tells me inside news on how the politics makes him do things he doesn't like because that is the way the VA is. So he tried his best to help me. Sometimes, if he is on vacation, I see another doctor at the clinic and he t…

Hey everyone, 😀 Kind of stuck right now with the VA, so thought I'd post. Fell on shoulder and went to ER. Discharged with no sling, no instructions. Could barely move arm. So besides not getting a proper exam and being released too early, never did they properly deal with my pain. But I've been calling them (patient advocate, etc) trying to get an appointment and I finally got an ultrasound scheduled for 10 days from now. Any ideas on how to see a doctor, quickly without going to the ER? Thanks! PS: I got a sling from a local civilian hospital on the 13th, but they couldn't prescribe or offer imaging.

A couple of times I have stated that VA doctors are not required to have a medical license to practice medicine at a VA Medical Facility , I was wrong. Initially I though this was correct because a VA doctor told me he could not write me a prescription for use outside the VA because he did not have a medical license, he was from Texas, and we were in Texas. I recently leaned from a Doctor I see once a week at Fort Hood, that all VA Doctors at the VA are are required to be licensed, that many are licensed in the state of Arizona, because they charge the lowest rates for a medical license, but he said VA doctors are licensed from all over the United States. He said a…

The average salary for a VA physician is $186,775 with a potential of Cash Bonus (2) $71,625 $8K as an additional income from the VA. https://www.glassdoor.com/Salary/US-Department-of-Veterans-Affairs-Physician-Salaries-E41429_D_KO34,43.htm A good doctor in private practice can surely make more than that- but will need to pay for costly malpractice insurance, unlike VA physicians. And another benefit of working for the VA is to have a 8 hour practice schedule, while private physicians probably all work many hours a week beyond 40 hours. VA is not attracting good doctors to work for them- they have to hire contracting fi…
