Caregiver Program and Housebound
My wife was denied last year for the Caregiver program. I was recently awarded an increase in my Depression from 70 to 100%. I was approved for Housebound. I was awarded to increase in my Depression due to my suicidal thoughts daily and due to this my wife cannot work. She basically is just trying to keep me alive. Is it worth it to re apply for the Caregiver Program due to this or it wont matter?

Directed Care vs SMC
Trying to get SMCs and "Directed (not Dedicated) Care". Now getting 11 hours per week from Home Instead, a VA Health Care contractor. Was getting another contractor who did not have the staffing to up the hours. Who knows what about these programs? From what I have read you can get both at the same time. SMCs is paid to you. Directed Care can be paid to you for you to pay a family member or friend. SMCs comes from the VA Benefits Division. Directed Care comes from the VA Health Care Division.

Question on knee replacement surgery infection . . .
A good friend (TDIU 8.5 yrs), had a knee replacement @ a VAMC in early November, 2023, all was going well for about a week, then it inflammation, drainage etc.. They initially treated it conservatively w/oral antibiotics but after about 3-4 weeks had him come in, admitted him, opened it up again, cleaned it out, closed it up and sent him home on IV-24/7 for 6 weeks. Seems to be doing better now. They found it to be a staph infection. Anyway, since the infection was the VA's fault, what options might he have?? Thanks for any assist!!

Remanded PCAFC
Moved dad in with my family in 2014. 100% P&T PTSD, neuropathies, Coronary artery disease all SC to AO. Appealed to veterans law judge and was remanded in November 2022. Waited patiently as dad declined slowly, then suddenly on 2/26/23 he was gone. Peacefully in his sleep. I've been all over the VA to ensure that this claim lives. Had my congressman enter an official inquiry to which I did get a response - "It's in line". Dad had pretty much accepted his situation, unable to walk, or take care of himself in any meaningful way. Its been 13 months since that remand came, and its impossible to get any information. Where is it in line? I appreciate the irony…

Caregiver denial
Hello, We applied for Caregiver Support (PCACF) for me to care for my husband 100% VA disabled: PTSD, REM behavior sleep disorder, obstructive sleep apnea, prostate CA Most recent diagnosis is vascular dementia, for which we applied for PCACF. His symptoms are mild at this point as far as he can do his personal cares himself, although I strongly encourage a daily shower and changing out of PJs at some point during the day… The denial letter states that he is able to drive, which he absolutely cannot as reported to his VA doctor by neuro psyche. Also, there is no mention that I manage all his medications: ordering, doling them out, and reminding him to…

Caregiver and eligibility of Veteran
Hello all! I haven’t had the need to post here in a long time, but it sure was helpful then. My husband is 100% PTSD disabled. Now he is diagnosed with a dementia. I read that Vietnam vets are twice as likely to develop dementia, however it is not now on the list of presumptive diseases, as was his prostate cancer… Multi-infarct, vascular dementia is suspected—MRI pending. He also has obstructive sleep apnea and REM sleep disorder related to the PTSD. All pointing to cause of dementia. Can someone tell me about receiving caregiver compensation. He can no longer drive and forgets to do some of his self cares. I have been to the VA caregi…

PCAFC
Greetings to all and hope that all is well as can be. I just received a letter in the mail in regards to the caregiver program. The letter just states that they received my appeal that was on Jan. 24th 2022 and are working to complete it in a timely fashion. Anyone else has an appeal going on for this? And if so how’s the timeline looking? In regards to this correspondence. I just wanted to get a little insight on the appeal process. Thanks for your time and any replies are much appreciated.

Granted for Cervical Spine
Greetings Great News! The VA recently granted my cervical spine claim as "service-connected." Please take a look at the attached documents and let me know if I have grounds to submit a CUE on this claim because I believed an error was made on the initial claim decision in 1999. Dazed and Confused Caregiver Denied
I've been 100% TDIU for the past 13 years I am SMC with most the alphabets. But primarily loss use of both feet and hands. When the Caregivers program opened for my wife we applied of course we were denied. The reason was my records do not indicate a need for a caregiver. Plus I guess the interview my wife and I did they did not feel I needed enough help. I can't drive. I can't wash my legs or feet. I can't put on my socks. So I'm going to see my PCP but not sure what needs to be done and not sure if it needs to be for a period of time. Any suggestions? comments.

So, where is the VA caregivers program (PCAFC) headed from here?
Seems like the VA is fumbling around in trying to salvage the program and naintain some kind of self dignity in the process. https://www.disabledveterans.org/2022/09/15/caregivers-take-fight-right-to-mcdonough-issue-remy-challenge/
