In the Veterans Benefits Manual found the following:

Depression: Diabetics have a greater risk for depression, especially when combined with alcohol or drug use, the side effects of medications, or thyroid problems. See American Diabetes Association, Depression, http://www.diabetes.org/type-2-diabetes/depression.jsp

Good Post and they don't often tell you at the VA that a side effect of oral medication for diabetes is depression.

Being a Vietnam Vet and having DBII SC(service connected) w/the VA. I can tell you to date I have had side effects of Depression. I am currently SC w/DBII & PN lower extremities 40% disabled

Just the fact that a person has a significant disability is a factor in depression. Having numb feet is pretty depressing. Go see a shrink at the VA and ask to be evaluated for depression.
