Mike,

Geeze Louise - someone take a stick and beat me.

Perhaps I had a brain aneurysm, an artery rupture,

or I think I'm speaking simple English but others are

hearing it in Greek.

I do not mean this to be condesending, but I am having a difficult time

trying to get something across that to me is as plain as a sunny day.

I'm calling in the troops for a Carlie's brain dead check, someone please

help me find another way to try and explain this in a very simple, clear and

concise way or call a shrink to Baker Act me.

I so badly want you to be able to understand my thoughts on your

VA HEADACHE CLAIM - for now just completely forget neck, back

cervical degenerative etc...

I am ONLY addressing HEADACHES

Mike, you say

" Yes, I am service connected 0% for headaches."

1)

If you have been granted service connection for headaches I feel sure the rating decision

that granted it will say - WHY THEY GRANTED SERVICE CONNECTION FOR HEADACHES.

Mike, you say

"My PCP is setting me up for a professional opinion on what is causing my headaches."

2)

If you are service connected for HEADACHES irregardless of what percentage is awarded zero percent,30 percent, fifty percent etc...

What would be the purpose in your PCP setting you up for a professional opinion

as to what is causing your HEADACHES --

VA has already conceded and granted you service connection for headaches ! ! !

Yes, I read - it's at zero percent - BINGO, your foot is in the door,

now let's see if we can push the door open a bit.

What you need to find out - and you can call the 800 # people for this.

Very seldom will anyone ever see me post this or hear me say it.

The 800 # people are very likely, to be able to provide an actually accurate answer

to this question, that you are going to ask them.

Here's the question -

What Diagnostic Code Number was used to grant service connection for my headaches ? ? ?

Examples of at least two possible answers are:

1) Diagnostic Code 8100 - Migraines

2) Diagnostic Code 8045 - Brain disease due to trauma

This does not dismiss, that there are other possible Diagnostic Code Numbers

that your specific service connection for your HEADACHES was granted under.

Now, stick with me here --

by finding out what Diagnostic Code Number the VA assigned inorder to grant

service connection for your Headaches -

this is how you will know

a) what different percentage levels are allowed

AND

b)what the medical evidence needs to show - for each different percentage level.

There is a Diagnostic Code Number that limits HEADACHES to a 10 percent grant.

There is a Diagnostic Code Number that can provide a grant for HEADACHES

at zero percent -- ten percent -- thirty percent -- or fifty percent.

Each different percent level, has it's own specific medical evidence

required to grant that certain percentage level of disability compensation.

Please do not get frustrated and/or upset with me.

I am NOT implying you are lying or dense or anything negative towards you.

Sometimes, I too ramble on in trying to either understand or explain something.

I want you to be granted the highest level of disability compensation that is allowed,

according to your disabilities and medical evidence.

Again,

1) It is very important to be positive that you are currently service connected

for your Headaches.

2) Call the 800 # people and ask

"What Diagnostic Code Number were my Headaches granted under .

3) Write the numbers down .

4) Let us know.

Believe it or not - it has taken me two hours to make this post.

If other poster's see this any differently, please add your thoughts to

this thread.

Hope this helps a vet,

carlie

Thanks Carlie. Sorry you worked so hard on this. I will call the 800 number and ask what code they gave for my headaches. I appreciate all you have done.......sorry

carlie,

i am still trying to get that rating #. The 800# keeps cutting off, so I went through IRIS and asked. Still waiting, they responded that it might take up to 5 working days. I hold nothing against you, I am just pretty slow at understanding things. And, I don't really care about an increase, although it would be nice. I just want answers to why i have these HA and want them to find out. Again thanks for your support and help. I want them to go away if possible.

Oh, and if you think you have problems understanding me. Consider what my poor wife goes through. She is the blessing in my life for helping me through this.

OK carlie,

The diagnostic code listed for your service connected headaches is 8100. The disability effective date is July 13, 2007 with a 0% rating.

here is the code they sent me.

Now what should I do?

Mike,

Ok as was already posted:

Migraines they have to be prostating and with certain amounts of frequency,

those would be found under:

http://edocket.access.gpo.gov/cfr_2008/jul...38cfr4.124a.htm

Diagnostic Code 8100,

Miscellaneous Diseases

------------------------------------------------------------------------

Rating

------------------------------------------------------------------------

8100 Migraine:

With very frequent completely prostrating and prolonged 50

attacks productive of severe economic inadaptability.........

With characteristic prostrating attacks occurring on an 30

average once a month over last several months................

With characteristic prostrating attacks averaging one in 2 10

months over last several months..............................

With less frequent attacks.................................... 0

The schedule above shows what medical evidence is needed for a decision maker to grant

the claim at zero, ten, thirty and fifty percent.

A prostating headache involves thing like nausea, having to lay down, dark room.

1) If you have the medical evidence from a doctor (that matches the requirements

listed above) for a rating higher than 30 percent you can request an increase.

or

2) If your headaches should increase in severity and frequency down the road,

you could file a request for an increase.

or

3) If the rating decision that granted your headaches, are within the timelines of

filing a NOD for a higher percentage, if you have the medical evidence then you can do that.

Someone in the thread suggested keeping a headache journal - that was helpful

in assigning a percentage in my claim. I suggest if you do not have one you begin keeping one.

It is very important to always know the Diagnostic Code a disability has been rated

under.
