HadIt.com Elder john999 Posted March 1, 2009 HadIt.com Elder Share Posted March 1, 2009 I think they get points for getting us into in-patient programs. It is a way to bulk up and get a bigger budget and more people. The pain clinic put on the full court press to get me into their in-patient pain program. I can see it now...sitting around listening to relaxation tapes and doing yoga. What is my wife supposed to do for weeks while I sit in a lotus pose. purple
OMG John....so true! And you know what? From what the therapists have told me, they do alot of that (yoga, relaxation crap) at this MST PTSD in-pt program. Uh.....no. That's not me. And they know that. They tried that once during some of our groups and I walked out. I'm not the "touchy-feely" type. Then that's when they tell me that I need to be on meds. LOL....so they want to drug me into being artifically relaxed. Nope, not playing their little game.
Ricky
"It's obvious these lengthy in-patient programs were designed for men. No offense guys...but it's easier for you to pick up and take off because if you still have minor children at home, and you are married, there is someone there to take care of them." I think they are designed for two parent homes for there are many single dad vets who face the same problem as you do. I do not know what the answer is but I do not see the VA changing anytime soon. mike/3/8/cav
Friend of mine (Vietnam era vet) was sent to a program somewhere in California for his 7 week "therapy". He was in a room with another fella and this guy kept bragging about his service. My friend threatened to throw him out the window and was in the process of doing so when he was stopped by a counselor. He was sent back home and later was given 100% PTSD, he was at therapy 2 days. SLEDGE
The VA convinced me a long time ago that their people do not have a clue. I was receiving pretty good treatment in the private sector until the VA shrink told my private insurance that I was a head case and the treatment didn't make any sense. Since then the treatment has been sanctioned by the FDA, just 18 years late. sledge
Erich
I am 50% for PTSD but was just recently rated. Can someone advise what the "MST" means? Can the VA drop our ratings if we refuse to go thru these in patient programs? Is this something all PTSD patients are set up to do? Sorry for all the questions... Purple, I don't see how they could expect you to drop everything and go to Florida for this... especially if you don't want too. I hope they back off and leave you alone.
