i was awarded 10 percent for tinnitus (jet noise, the sound of freedom) from an audio test at discharge, c&p through qtc va contractor (now it's mes solutions?) i seem to remember they ask you if the ringing is from left or right ear or "in the middle". the award for 10 percent (indicating both ears affected?)answer is apparently "in the middle". as there doesn't seem to be technology to actually detect tinnitus beyond self-reporting, answering this question honestly is between the vet, their conscience and god and maybe a fine or jail if somehow discovered that they answered fraudulently. of course, having documentation in service medical records or a buddy statement or other means of verification for compensation have to precede this.
