Sinusitis Service Connection Through Va Exam

Question

Hello,

I had a VA exam which included an MRI 10 days after coming off of active duty in Iraq. The MRI showed pretty bad sinusitis and so I'm wondering if I would be able to get a service connection for it as it has continued now for a couple of years. I guess the problem is that I never complained about it while I was in service and that the VA exam took place 10 days after I got off of active duty. The condition is definitely not something that just develops in a matter of a few days. Do I have a shot here at service connection, or am I out of luck because they found it just after I came off active duty?

The reason I didn't put in a claim for it a couple of years ago is that I didn't know the MRI came back with the sinusitis results as I was not informed. I decided to do a FOIA request for my results recently as I need surgery now for the condition and my doctor told me I have probably had it for a while, so I was curious and wanted to see if it had showed up on the MRI and lo and behold there it was in the comments.

Thank you very much in advance.

Others may be able to provide more helpful information, but I am SC for it. They did a CAT scan and found I had 90% blockage on one side and significant blockage on the other, coupled with polyps too. Having service medical records was a big help, as I had medical proof of a nose injury during training that was treated while I was on AD. I don't know the criteria they used, as I was granted SC quite a few years ago.
