Iu Paperwork

Question

The last package I received from the VARO in Waco asked me for more evidence and what confused me IU paperwork. I am currently working as a WS-06 at Fort Hood and earning a fair check every 2 weeks. Although it's getting harder and harder to deal with my PTSD symptoms each day. I was seen about 1 1/2 weeks ago for my C&P for PTSD and things sounded more than favorable for a good outcome on that one(but I know how that can be twisted). But why would they send me IU paperwork prior to my C&P when I never indicated I was going for or expected 100% in the first place?Am I reading too much into this? Or is it Waco's way of beating me to the punch? Would it be smart for me to fill out the paperwork even though I am working? Sorry but I'm so new at this and have no idea.I have yet to actually see the results of my C&P. How do I get a copy of it?ThanksDoc

Go to the VAMC you had the exam and go to the ROI office and fill out the form to get a copy. Just give them the date you had it.

You cannot be employed to receive IU.

Ooops sorry I forgot to mention that I did not go to a VAMC for the exam. I was seen by someone contracted by the VA that drove up from Houston to do the exam. I understand I can’t be employed to receive IU. But can you apply for it while employed and medically retire once approved? Thanks Doc

Doc,

This "Totally Disabled due to Individual Unemployability" isn't a "retirement plan".

You can't just work up until you get your first TDIU compensation check (otherwise EVERYbody would be doing just that).

You must be unable to work due to your disability(s).

THEN you qualify.

And, there is no way to PRE-qualify and then "retire".

As I said I am new to all of this. I have to admit that it's all very overwhelming to me. My daily stress level lately is at an all time high. Ever since my ankle surgery I don't get enough exercise and my sugar has gone way up to the point I am now on insulin to keep it in control. And I'm up to 60 units a day and it's still higher than it's supposed to be. I find out that I have PTSD from a C&P exam. I find out I have sleep apnea and am now sucking air from a tube every night. After my ankle fusion surgery my fibula was cut in half and never grew back together and it's causing me great pain in my ankle and knee. The muscles in my right leg have atrophied to the point that I look like I have one peg leg. I burn up all my sick leave and vacation time convalescing. Now I'm on very limited duty at work and others have to do much of my work for me. All of this hits me in a period of 2 months. Two months ago I was a happy but confused guy with a sore ankle but life was good. Now I'm freaking loosing it here. I'm having constant dreams about Beirut that I have not had in many years. I can't think straight and I don't know where to turn or what to do. I’m so damned confused. This all started because I wanted some assistance getting some mental health care for my constant confusion and memory problems since no psychologists in my area accept my insurance from work. A friend told me to go to the DAV because they could help. The next thing I know I'm filing a claim to the VA for disability. My VSO is of less help than a rock. So I came here looking for help. Then I read so much about how the vet gets screwed over in here... The VA tells me I am not allowed to use them for help till I get a SC%. Then the VA sent me the IU paperwork un asked for. It sounded like an out for me. I did not know why they sent it and now I'm sorry for asking... It won’t happen again. I was not asking for a retirement plan just a way out. I wish I had never put in for disability now. I am sorry for asking stupid questions, I was only looking for answers. You have a fine day.

Man don't give up! No one here was trying to make you feel bad or anything. I am in the same boat as you are with my back. I am 60% and working, but I don't know for how long. I have to take pain killers just to make it through the day. I was wondering the same thing you just asked! Thank you for asking it.

swells,

See if there is a Vet Center located in your area, if so you can get MH help there

at no charge.

My VSO is of less help than a rock.

This is very normal - though it should not be.
