Applying For Nscp

Question

I am being pushed by the psychiatrist and counselor at my VA site to apply for the non service connected pension (I am Vietnam era vet) on the basis of depression, obsessive compulsive disorder and emotional problems relative to Aspergers syndrome interfering with employment. They said they will support the application done through the local VFW rep. I also have some physical symptoms as documented through VA treatment.

A few questions:

1. My VA treatment site is the regional office. Does that mean the psyche recommending I apply would also do the c&p? If so seems I would have a much greater chance of getting the disability.

2. What is the 70% or above max payment right now - last I heard it was $980.

3. I was told you could still work and not lose the pension as long as you weren't employed 12 consecutive months. ????

4. Time from filing to decision would be about 3-4 months??? This is crucial as I am being told I can neither work nor receive UI benefits during the decision period, means I would have to live off savings during that time.

Thanks for any help.
