What Is A "rater" In Claims

teejay53

Question

i called st. paul va claims dept. today and was told that my dic, homebound and pension claim has went from the collecting and assembling information department to the rater or rating department.

does anyone have an idea what "rater" is and how many other departments are involved after this to get a decision on my claim?

thank you all for your help.

To my knowledge, as I just recieved my DIC. The rater will make the decision to grant or deny, after the decision is made, after that, you can expect to get a letter within 5 weeks, as my claim was filed June 22, 2009, Decision was made Jan.13th and February 19th I recieved my letter, granting Dic. Money was in account in 2 days. It took a total of 8months to the day to get everything. Hope this helps you out. Good luck!!!! I know it is a long wait, but, well worth it once it is over!!!!!!!!

thank you for your help.

all the qualifications for me to qualify for dic i sent in, my only worry is:

service connected death - i only had 1 letter from my hubby's personal physician stating he had no risk factors to contract the disease that caused his death except when he was in the marines.

The "rater" is the decision maker in the adjudication process.

There are additional areas of adjudication a claim/issues may

need to go through before a claimant or the VSO receives

the actual Rating Decision.
