Va Doctor Opinion

teejay53

Question

i have a dic claim filed for hepatitis c from a blood transfusion in 1978 which was the cause of my husbands death last year.

i was told his medical records were sent to a veteran doctor for an opinion and they have to respond by june 7. the veteran's agent i spoke to today said this request was sent by the rater.

i am wondering if this is a good thing, bad thing or the normal flow in order to grant a dic claim.

you opinion is greatly appreciated.

:)

my husband's personal doctor believes the veteran assoc. did not offer a test that included hepatitis c when my husband was discharged and hepatitis c usually takes 20 to 30 years for severe liver damage.

my husband was not one to go to a doctor unless he was extremely ill. i met him in 1994 and the only explanation to give you is the one i received from his doctor. his personal doctor that treated him from 1993 until his death for the hepatitis c thinks "he only went occasionally to other non veteran doctors after his discharge until 1993 for colds, etc and did not get blood work done."

teejay,

I have a claim in for DIC also, my claim has been sent for a medical opinion 5 times, not sure if this is a good or bad thing. My husband also had Hep C and had a liver transplant in 2002. He was a combat wounded veteran with a purple heart. They cannot locate his service treatment records from his 6 week hospital stay in Vietnam. All though he was service connected for other things he was not service connected for Hep C. This is also on a remand from the BVA because we were never told that they could not locate the medical records and they denied the Hep C claim. No expert here just letting you know I am on my 5th medical opinion.
