If you have the sign(s) of stroke, do not allow your Physician to "pooh-pooh" you off. I experienced what I felt was a sign of stroke. One half of the vision in one eye "went funny". I closed my eyes and the strange visual occurrence was still there (so it obvious to me, it was not my eyesight). Unfortunately, I was alone, couldn't drive due to the visual disturbance, and "waited" it out. I explained what happened to my Primary, telling her I believe I had a stroke. I was sent to a fee-basis eye doctor who dx'd me as having an "ocular migraine". Almost a year later, my Neurologist ordered a MRI for my MS. Turns out my "ocular migraine" WAS a small stroke! If you have ANY of the signs of stroke, do not be foolish like me, call 911 if you need to, but get medical help! I was lucky as little damage was caused, but if there is a next time, I am not going to "wait it out" again and I will insist on being checked for a stroke!

Very good info------

I wish I knew this over a decade ago when I had to take my husband to the VA ER so many times they got angry at him.

They said his visual disturbances ,sudden balance problems , and headaches were due to a hole in his eardrum,( which he didnt have).

Years later I proved (and VA doctor agreed) that these were transcient multiple ischemic brain events that were left undiagnosed and untreated and then followed by a major CVA a few years later. He got an MRI only when I threathened to call my Congressman and all of these TIAs showed up as brain damage in different areas of his brain.

Stroke can be due to Ischemic heartt disease and AO vet who have IHD should definitely claim any CVA they have as secondary.

I just checked over my BVA award and it clearly states my husband's strokes and IHD were due to his undiagnosed and untreated DMII.

I had IHD AO claim pending and began to wonder if I needed another IMO but what they have covers this.

Embolic strokes are most often due to IHD and atherosclerosis of heart and brain.

However VA doesnt connect dots well and these claims (CVA secondary to heart disease) might well need a detailed IMO.
