Husband To Go To C&p

Question

My husband was in the coast guard. While there stationed in alaska at a one man station, there was one other personnel there who made a mistake and blew the battery up in my husband face. They had to stay there for a month until picked up by a hop. The only thing that was done was flush his eyes out with water. That was in 1982. In 2007 his retna was completely ripped. They asked what injury did he get to his eye. He is now blind in one eye, getting social security, depressed like crazy, leaves for long walks to nowhere, etc... We told them, he applied, was denied, but now is scheduled for a C&P exam. What's going on? Did they approve him? Did they make a mistake or what? I am lost here.

do you use a vets representative? When did he file? Have you requested/sent a Notice of Disagreement on their denial? Do you have all of his records? What other proof do you have which explaims what happened to his eye/eyes with this battery acid occurring? Please fill us in a bit more so all may try to assist you along the way. We need to know hwat he has sent so far and what needs to be sent. Also physician documentation and opinions from these years past too. We all want to assist but any more information you may post may offer suggestions for you to follow with him.

Halos is correct.

Does this injury appear in his SMRs?

If he can prove he sustained this eye injury in service (proof of the incident and any inservice medical treatment)- he would then have to prove that his current eye problems are directly due to this accident with the battery.

"They asked what injury did he get to his eye"..Who are "they" and did they document this in his medical records?

Scheduling him for a C & P does not mean an award.

It helps determine the level of disabilty if an award can be made.

What does he get SSA for?

Can he get an independent medical opinion if he needs one? Does he get private care for this eye problem?
