Question

Just to bump this up:

"According to Harrison's Principles of Internal Medicine (Harrison's

Online, Chapter 237, Ischemic Heart Disease, 2008), IHD is a condition

in which there is an inadequate supply of blood and oxygen to a portion

of the myocardium; it typically occurs when there is an imbalance

between myocardial oxygen supply and demand. Therefore, for purposes of

this regulation, the term ``IHD'' includes, but is not limited to,

acute, subacute, and old myocardial infarction; atherosclerotic

cardiovascular disease including coronary artery disease (including

coronary spasm) and coronary bypass surgery; and stable, unstable and

Prinzmetal's angina. Since the term refers only to heart disease, it

does not include hypertension or peripheral manifestations of

arteriosclerosis such as peripheral vascular disease or stroke.

Of course if IHD has caused stroke or any other secondary condition, those conditions should be claimed as secondary to the IHD and will need medical evidence of the nexus of the claimed secondary to the IHD.

Berta,

Your definition is correct and well explained. Let me add this though, I recommend all VN vets get regular check-ups by their doctor. There are many diseases of the heart that manifest with little or no symptoms and go overlooked for years before discovery, usually after permanent damage is caused.

YES, you are so right about that!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I get annual EKGs and was thrilled when I left my doc after the last one I got last month as nothing had changed- ALWAYS good news for a historically normal annual EKG!!!!!

An EKG can show a lot BUT all of the other tests we get- need to be taken into consideration too along with EKGs etc - as =say- for example blood work could reveal hyperlipedimia- not a ratable condition by VA and not a disability -but it is actually potential prescurser to major heart disease and other problems if it is not treated properly.

bumping this up-

the VA's definition of IHD is in this topic.

It does not however include any other related and ratable disabilty, that can be proven by medical evidence to have secondary link to the IHD.
