Question

I was awarded 100% howevr I am not considered P and T, I will try and get it. On friday night my next door neighbor house caught on fire and I had to go in and rescue her and try and put the fire out. In doing so I suffered some smoke inhalation and my anxiety and depression symptoms have gotten worse do to this experience. I will be quiting my job on monday because I think I will be a disruption to my co-workers and I feel I cannot be as productive as I should. Also because of this experience my lower back pain has gotten worse to the point I cannot affectivlely move around at the same pace as before. Do you think this is a good idea or what?

Hi Vet2010

Looks like your thread flared up a little bit. :-)

I'm just here to add my two sense regarding the original post.

If you don't feel you can mantain employment at this time, then by all means do what you need to do, only you can make this decision.

As to whether or not your job loss will effect your 100% and perhaps make it P&T......I don;t think so.

In order to get P&T you sc'ed condition that make up 100% need to be permanant in nature. You listed the different sc'ed disabilities your 100% rating is made up of. The VA needs to determine if these are permanant in nature for you to be P&T. Unfortunately the VA looks at job loss as temporary unless they determine that your disablilities qualify you for TDIU, which is a separate claim you would have to put in for, and effectively keep you in the same place, as TDIU is like 100% without P&T benefits which doesn't really change anything for you.

Your best bet is to get an outside doc or two to determine your disabilities for permanent in nature and and are not likely to change. THIS IS WHAT NEEDS TO CHANGE FOR YOU TO GET P&T..... Until you get a doctor or two to write this down P&T will not happen, regardless of your job situation.

Good luck, and take the advice of your fellow vets, take a medical sabbatical if you can to consider your work options, wait a week or two, talk to someone, and revisit the work decision after you have had some time to yourself after everything that has happened to you over the last few weeks.

Take Care,

Hawk.

I appreciate the advice, I am looking at all options. The question of whether or not my Depression will improve is I don't think so. I have chronic back pain, chronic prostatis, and chronic testalgia (must get injections every three months. In testicals).. I take a host of medication including Exalgo which is a Morpihine pill, and Nuvigil to counter the affects. I have a miserable life indeed. Am I suicidal, HECK NO. I am miserable. It is not about the money however it would be nice to be compenated for my ailments. Moderators, I really appreciate the advice, tough love and words of encourgement. So, how can I get over depression when I have to wear a damn diaper to keep from pissing on myself.

vet2010,

Well, about all I can say is that many females, of which I am one, begin having this same

problem, actually quite early in life.

For me - here I am jumping out of my closet - a weak bladder and a horrendous cough -

awe hell - I'll let you figure the rest out on your own.

Put it this way no matter if you are male or female, strutting in your 20's and 30's

or perhaps a bit more advanced in years - incontinence is NEVER PRETTY,

NEVER FEELS CLEAN, NEVER HELPS ONE FEEL DESIRABLE.

It just plain sucks and yes, it is depressing.

But I am willing to bet that you belong to a much bigger club than you can imagine.

And if it's secondary to a SC'd disability they should at least be compensating you for it

monetarily and providing diapers or pads - that work.

Sorry I didn't have better news.

Hang in there.

For the longest I thought it was just me, I am a 40-45 yr old who served 20 years in the military. When I first realized I was "leaking" I thought what the hell. As time went on I realized something wasn't right, I had a colonoscopy and discovered my prostate was enlarged and that explained the getting up 3-4 times a nigt to use the latrine. I woke up several nights completely soaked in my own damn piss. Man, what a shame. Colon and Prostate Cancer run rampet in my family, my brother passed away at the age of 39 from cancer and my Father, Uncle and Cousins have all had Prostate or Colon Cancer and many have died. Living with this is the worst experience of my life. I can't make love to my wife anymore and Viagra and Cialis is a joke now. I wear two hearing aids, a back brace, tins unit, walk with a cane, CPAP machine, and must take lunesta to get a reasonably good nights sleep. Depends (diapers) are now my best friend in public and I forgot to mention I had two eye surgeries. Miserable is a word I use sparingly, have I thought about ending it all, of course, however my children, wife and more importantly my GOD sustain me through my everyday living. I post my problems here because it is secretive and you will never know my name or where I live, I can be open and honest about my problems and can share my story without shame or guilt. Having someone to talk too or respond too is a blessing.

I wanted to give everyone an update. I went to my civilian doctor today and I will finally be getting the help I need. This depression and anxiety thing is getting the best of me.
