What exactly is an SSOC, what does contain?

I am very concerned that I did not receive this prior to appeal going back to BVA. What opportunity did I miss?

Thanks Carlie, just find it odd that a remanded claim goes back to BVA without a SSOC that supposedly was sent to me. I get everything else from VA.
