First On Cnn: Panetta To Recommend Pay Cut For Military

teejay53

Question

Just days before he leaves office, Defense Secretary Leon Panetta is recommending military pay be limited, effectively decreasing troop salary next year.

Panetta will recommend to Congress that military salaries be limited to a one percent increase in 2014. The Pentagon has calculated that the 2014 Employment Cost Index (ECI) from the Labor Department is expected to be above one percent, but wants to still cut back on pay
due to “budget uncertainties,” one department official told CNN. In 2013, a 1.7 percent increase was approved, based on the ECI, which has been the basis for military pay for the last several years.

Three Pentagon officials have confirmed details of the plan to CNN. The Joint Chiefs of Staff have also agreed to Panetta’s proposed pay plan. Final approval for the pay would come from Congress in the form of the 2014 budget.

Is the correct term "pay cut" or "reduced raise"?

Either way, it looks like our troops will be getting the shaft.

Heck -

Here's the parts that scream out to me .

"The recommendation is tied to the Defense Department's 2014 budget recommendation,

which was expected to be sent to Congress this month, one of the officials said.

But the

officials acknowledge it is going to be seen as an effort to push Congress to stop the automatic budget cuts

that could go into effect if no deal is reached on spending reductions."

"CNN has also learned that this week,

the Navy is expected to announce

it does not have the money to pay for refueling and maintenance of the aircraft carrier Abraham Lincoln.

That will essentially mean the Navy is short a carrier and overseas deployments will be cut.
"No good options exist," Panetta said."

Fact is that when the War is over the Military takes a big hit. Always been that way no matter who was running the show. One of the problems with all Volunteer is that many want to get their 20 years while draftees mostly want to get out.

Where is the freedom for veterans and the American people who work and many risk their lives?Where is the Freedom to continue to allow our veterans to be used, and then nickle and dime them to death! Why can't Americans take a stand and rectify that Senators, Congressman/women, and all others who work in governmental positions not get their salaries for life when they are no longer in office and yes get it STOPPED!! Why is it ok for some Presidents to get secret service security for life and not for others? What happened to the term limits that were there for years? Why were Jets, and Tanks given to Egypt, and not sold to help our economy? Look into these issues, and then tell me it is justified to take from our military protectors...Why does America continue to give aid to other countries when we have our own starving right here in all the states? I don't want pay cuts for our workers.Let the outgoing politicians get their big pay cuts instead. JMHO at this hour on this day.
