House Bound Parkinson's

Rate this topic

Recommended Posts

I'm rated 10% IHD, 80% Parkinson's and 100% IU. I can't drive safely, so I quit driving, in order not to harm anybody. My wife or friends have to take me to my VA appointments and other appointments. I don't sleep but 3-4 hours per night, a VA sleep study confirms this. A VA Doctor diagnosed me with chronic fatigue syndrome (not service related), Because of the sleep problem, chronic fatigue syndrome and the never ending progressive parkinson's disease, I can't walk for exercise or any other type of exercise, because of my conditions. I go out of the house each day to get the mail and this is normally the only time I get out of the house. Do you think I meet the qualifications for SMC Housebound? If so, how do I apply and how much does it pay.

GOD BLESS

I believe the rate is currently $336 monthly, for a married veteran living w/their spouse. If your SC condition keeps you from leaving the house to work a job, 40 hrs a wk, you should meet the requirements for housebound.

Are you able to swim at all? Does you wife work or must she stay home to care for you? Are you a 9/11 vet? If so you might be able for your wife to get caregiver money. I got HB due to being Total plus 60%.

Thanks for your replies. I'm 65 years old and the VA Neurologists/Movement Specialists, says I've had Parkinson's for at least 15 years. I'm sure you good men worked as long as you could for your loved ones, like me, but in 2006, the Parkinson's started progressing more and more and I finally had to Quit work in 2011. John, I can't do much of any thing physically let alone swim. My wife quit work to be with me. Right now, I can care for my self for personal needs in the house, except cook for myself.

GOD BLESS

Caring for yourself includes the addage of ADL or ativities of daily living. That would fall under aid and attendance.

Housebound is SMC S. Statuatory Housebound is when a veteran is total plus 60 percent. Aid and attendance falls under SMC L (The next highest SMC award after S)

One must get a MD to address a housebound situation. Without it, It may not fly as the VA treats your statements as lay statements and often ignore them.
