Retro Math Test... Need your help!

Hello Berta and All,

I just received my decision letter on one of my appeals, and it's 2 things wrong with this letter... (1) I don't see what evidence they reviewed or why they gave me the lowball 10 percent rating (perhaps there is another letter), and (2) either I can't count or they missed retro for the entire year 2015.

Can you VA math wiz out there run the numbers and see how much retro you come up with based off this letter. Scroll all the way down for the answer.

You should have received additional pages as indicated in the Enclosures section on the last page. The rating decision is probably what you are looking for, which includes "evidence" and "reasons and bases" sections. In some cases, it is printed on different color paper, like light blue or light green. They are supposed to insert all the indicated enclosures in the same big brown envelope (BBE). If all you received in that envelope was just five pages, then someone at the VA screwed up and you are missing documentation.

We did not get a COLA adjustment in December 2015. The entitlement amount starting in December 2014 stayed the same until it was increased in December 2016.

Ohhhhh okay - that clears it up. Since the cola never changed maybe they just didn't put 2015 on the sheet. I understand. Thanks for the clarity. I just had the 1-800 number fax this to me and it was only 8 pages. including cover. I never received the BBE - I was granted in Oct 2017.

SergeantQ, check with your local American Legion, VFW, state or local VA, they can pull up your ENTIRE decision online.

Sounds like some clerk at the VA was still drunk after a night of swigging down White Lightning, and didn't put all the Decision pages in that big white envelope before mailing out.
