In Memoriam Stretch Posted September 4, 2008 In Memoriam Share Posted September 4, 2008 Form VBA 21-527. This is the pension form that you fill out if you are waiting for a Service Connected claim that is in process. VBA_21_527_ARE.pdf Form VBA 21-526 is used for Non-Service Connected Veterans Pension. There may be a newer copy of the 21-626 http://www.hadit.com/forums/index.php?act=...post&id=

In Memoriam Stretch Posted September 5, 2008 Author In Memoriam Share Posted September 5, 2008 I remember a story, on Hadit, were the Vet was given his NSC pension, no problem. His other SC claims were just more or less discarded. This is the difference between filing one form or the other. Trying to shake an NSC pension, in relation to Service Connection, is like trying to stop Readers Digest from continuing a subscription (Hotel California). etihwr
There is no Service Connected Pension. We call it Compensation. The pension from the DVA is for NSC disabilities. If you are getting compensation, you will get the greater of the two. Compensation is tax free. The Pension is taxable. The Pension is an income based product. You also have had to have served one day during a period of war and 90 days in the military. With compensation, you can make all the money you want unless you have 100% from IU. Then your limited to what the department of commerence stats a 65 yr old male can make (this year it's $11,200). This all could be easily answered by a good service officer. You can go to EZBOARD as well as several other BB's too. I remember a story, on Hadit, were the Vet was given his NSC pension, no problem. His other SC claims were just more or less discarded. In Memoriam Stretch Posted February 21, 2010 Author In Memoriam Share Posted February 21, 2010 On the first page of the 21-527 form, the question reads. B. What do I use VA Form 21-527 for? Use VA Form 21-527 to apply for disability pension if you have previously filed a claim for compensation and/or pension. If you have not filed a claim for compensation or pension previously, you must use VA Form 21-526, Veteran’s Application for Compensation and/or Pension.
