Question

In sep 08 I was granted 70% sc. 50% ptsd,10% left ankle, 10% left knee, 10% right knee. My question is when I went to my c&p for ptsd the doc did'nt say I needed counciling. He did tell me to talk to my civilian doc about prescrips such as Prozac,Zoloft and Prazosin, which I did. He prescribed me Prazosin and said it might help with my sleep problems. He also said that he was not a fan of prescribing the other meds and he would like to see me at another time to discuss it more. My worry is that if I am not going to counseling and not on the other meds will they take my disabilty away? I have also submitted over VOANAPP for another exam for GWI for conditions that they gave me a 0% rating. Am I on the right track or screwing things up here? Thanks for any info you might have. I live in Alaska very remote from the VA in Anchorage but they paid my way two times to get my exams and have been very good so far.

Most of the time when awarded 70% and the meds you mentioned you are pretty safe. I would like to know if you are able to work? If you are not you should get SSD if you have the quarters and you should get TDIU 100% or schedular 100%.

Mike, congratulations on your efforts and welcome to Hadit. If your rating for PTSD is new, its probably not too much to worry about as far as being reduced for counseling and the medication connections. Meaning, I dont think either are 'required'. Do you plan to or have current care (counseling and'or meds) for your PTSD? By telephone or internet and all, is it possible that you could contact the VA on whats available to you where you are at? Its my thoughts, the VA should 'afford/pay' for your continuous medical care, including counseling if most conveinent for you where you are. Sounds like you are far away and the travel would be prohibitive in costs if you are working or tending to family. Pardon me, but I can only imagine how beautiful but {{cold}} it is wherever you are!

Yes Pete-sir is right on, social security is a boon and if you are able, tdiu from the va is a good&great thing itself.

Happy New Year and welcome to Hadit, where questions are free and answers are what we are each searching for.

Thanks Pete for your input. I'm really green at all this and we don't have all the comforts a most little towns to get answers like this. I'm not able to gain any employment here due to the type of work done here, mostly heavy equip and logging, truck driver etc. My arms fall asleep after about 15-20 mins just driving a car. I don't understand the ssd or TDIU or how to get a 100% rating. I am thinking about sending VA back form RRAIS (JF) for depleted uranium and another 21-4138 for GWI that I believe they ignored at my initial C&P. I was given 0% for left arm condition, right arm condition, right shoulder soreness, bronchitis, diabetes mellitus, back pain/ache,neck condition, and eyesight condition with blurred vision. I have nothing in my retirement medical exam except the form I filled out saying that I had some of these problems but was never treated for them while in the service. Thank you again, I'm pleased with what I am getting now and don't want to mess anything up.

Thank you to Cowgirl. Yes it is beautiful here and COLD. I'm also fortunate to have Tri-care and there is a clinic about 45 miles from here. Just regular doctors no specialists. But the doctor I see is ex SF dude and has been a great help to me. He even wrote a letter to VA in support of my initial claim. My wife used to have a bumper sticker that said Cowgirl up. Pretty neat.

Happy New year Mike. Did the VA mention anything about a "Bilateral Factor" for both knees in the award letter.?
