  1. Thanks to everyone for all your help. I have some work to do now!!!! I asked my husband what he talked about to Madigan and the chaplin but he can't remember. VERY FRUSTRATING!! So I'll contact Madigan and the Chaplin and see what information is available to us. Also since finding the article, I will try JSRRC again. First attempt came up with zero. Now I have more details and better dates for them. I'll keep you all posted on the outcome. Enjoy your holidays and God bless.
  2. Sorry guys, I cannot figure out how to attach the letter. I'll write it out for you: "Your were previously denied service connection for post traumatic stress disorder. You were notified of the decision on April 16, 2010. The appeal period of that decision has expired and the decision is now final. In order for us to reopen your claim, we need new and material evidence. Your claim was previously denied because a review of you service treatment records was negative for any treatment, complaints, or diagnosis of post traumatic stress disorder. The evidence does not show that you meet all of the requirements for service connection. Therefore, the evidence you submit must be new and relate to this fact." He was in PLDC school in March 2005. When he came back for Iraq, we passed the PTSD test screening in Oct 2005 and again in Nov 2005. They gave him a diagnosis of PTSD/MDD Aug 2006. He has been seen by 2VAMC Portland OR and VAMC Daytona Beach, Also has IMO that he seen in Portland OR. He also have a perm profile with PTSD. (that for some reason was changed but I don't want to get into that. The profile was permanent not temporary) He was denied by Washington State RO. When we moved to Florida, he finally shared his stressor, and we reopened the case with new evidence. We have submitted: * VAMC Daytona Beach FL Psychiatrist Diagnosis of PTSD/Depression * His Stressor Letter * Buddy stressor letter * Dr, notes with up'd meds Should I now send them the reports for PLDC school? I would think they have this. I would feel better if I had the stressor that the school used to diagnosis him with ASD. Any ideas on how I can find out what stressor they based their diagnosis on?
  3. Yes his VA doc told my husband that acute stress disorder is the beginning stages of PTSD. I'll point that out that we would like him to state that in the nexus. HIS acute stress disorder led to HIS PTSD today. I've been looking in his records to see if I can find where Madigan came up with the diagnosis of acute stress disorder but I don't see any mention of why they came up with that diagnosis. Thank you again.
  4. Thanks sccrewed. People of this forum have all been wonderful teachers. I still have soooo much to learn.
  5. Thank you Hedgey. He does have a VAMC Psychiatrist diagnosis for PTSD/Depression. I know I should have put in a depression claim in the same time as we put in for PTSD. A few questions for you: Is depression an Anxiety disorder? He is on SSDI for anxiety disorder. What kind of evidence is needed to open a depression claim. Please keep in mind we are missing a good strong stressor. He served in a combat zone but doesn't have a combat mos or combat medals or ribbons.
  6. My husband has a va claim in appeals for his lower back. He is on SSDI for degenerative joint disease of the lower back. While looking thru is files, we found a SMR for middle back. I don't recall submitting this to va in the initial claim. He hurt it doing lanes while in training., They gave him Motrin. Could this be submitted as evidence for his lower back appeal? I think I'm just grasping at straws but no harm in asking. MRI was done to lumbar spine. Degenerative change at L1-L2 and disc space narrowing at L4-L5. Is this anywhere near the middle back??? I'm not by no means an expert on VA claims or a doctor and I would hate to have evidence in my hand and not know that I could use it. He does have lower back popping in his exit review but at the time, VA dr's were concentrating on his knees since they were giving him the most problems. He is SC'd for his knees 20%. Thanks again for all you do on these forums. They are such a help.
  7. Thank you Berta for the inspiration. He hasn't been denied just yet. We received a letter for VA saying that the evidence does not show that he meets all of the qualifications requirements and we need to submit new evidence. I know he is missing the nexus which we will have hopefully on his next dr's visit. The only other requirement that I can think of would be the darn stressor. I'll contact JSRRC and see what comes up. I didn't contact them thinking that an attack didn't occur. It was a threat of one. So why would there be a record of an alleged attack? Would they take into concideration that he was diagnosed with Acute Stress Disorder while in PLDC school? According to his VA dr's, this is the beginning stages of PTSD. He was diagnosed with PTSD 5 months later and has been on meds ever since.
  8. Perhaps I should give you a little bit more information. The stressor was a planned attack on his camp. The attack never happened (Thank God) Since there was no indecent there is no stressor. I was under the impression that he would be approved under the new rule that states "The veteran must have experienced, witnessed, or have been confronted by an event or circumstance that involved ed dactual or threaten death or serious injury... " My husband did indeed feel threatened. Coming our of Iraq, he was sent to PLDC school in 2005. He was observed as withdrawn and would not participate in class He said he couldn’t concentrate and he felt distant, trapped and anxious. He saw a chaplain and a doctor. He was excused from the school due to Post Deployment Adjustment Problems and Acute Stress Disorder. A few months later he was diagnosed with PTSD and depression. He has been on meds ever since. He was awarded SSDI in 2007. He will be meeting with his VA psychiatrist next week to go over his stressor letter and hopefully get a good nexus.
  9. Forgive my ignorance here. I'm still learning. My husband is being treated for PTSD/Depression thru VA psychiatrist. He is on SSDI for anxiety disorder. But I'm afraid he cannot prove his stressor. He doesn't have any combat medals or ribbons. He did serve in a combat zone. We did manage to get a newspaper article on the supposed attack (the stressor) and a buddy letter but I'm told that it's not good enough. I realize now that we should have put in a claim for Depression the same time we put in for PTSD. Can he put in another claim for PTSD and Depression or put in a new claim for depression? We haven't gotten a response on the PTSD claim yet but without a stressor, we are not looking at an approval. What sort of evidence would we need for a depression claim?
  10. Hello All, Newbie here. I am the wife of a vet trying very hard to lean all that I can on this site. I've been helping my husband with he claims and we received a letter saying that they are working on my husband claim for neck arthritis. They also sent form 21-686c. From what I'm being told by vets in my neighborhood is that they will send this form out if you are or will be granted 30% SC'd. My husband is currently 20% SC'd for both knees. Does this sound like his claim will be approved? We have had good news before and then have VA pull the rug out from under us so I don't want to get my hopes up. Just wondering if this looks like it is to our favor. Thanks again. Looking forward to responses,
