doc-up8404's Achievements

  1. Congrats Rover, great news especially at Christmas!!! My retro was in my bank acct BEFORE my white envelope showed up so it should be there soon. Enjoy and keep fighting for what is right!
  2. They will check to see if you have made improvements and if yes then they can and will at least propose a reduction. Ok sounds good. I will be on the alert for more exams then. I have my first primary care visit next month so I guess if I'm improving then my rating will be in jeopardy of going down but, I guess that's just the way it works...
  3. Doc-up8404.....When I got my rating in May 2012, it also stated something similar to "an exam will be scheduled at a future date to evaluate the severity of my service disabilities." But four items were deferred to include Back, Cervical Spine, Headaches and IU. It could be that they will evaluate you for Individual Unemployability. Those four C/P exams came on July 20, 2012 and July 30, 2012 and my award date was October 4, 2012. BTW did you apply for IU? Oh ok. Yeah I had nothing deferred just hearing loss denied. I never applied for IU. Work has it's ups and downs but, I can still do it, and the days I can't I have sick time to call in. Bravo, Doc - very happy for you! THANKS!!
  4. can you list your claims and percentages related to them if you don't mind. Also what information did you provide to them in relations to your fully developed claim? I mean was it all medical records from service and VA or did you have an IME or private doc right up a report for you? Cham, The claim was all from documented records while on active duty, then when I got home I went to appts at the VA. I got my diagnoses then put in my claim. However I have yet to actually be seen (other than C and P) for my shoulder, neck, back, wrist. Yet I got 10% for all of them. Goes to show you, claim everything and anything you think you may have. I have never seen a private Doc for anything. 70% PTSD w/ alcohol abuse 30% Migraine 10% left wrist strain 10% lumbar strain 10% cervical strain 10% Rotator Cuff/left shoulder 10% Tinnitus 10% Gerd 0% MTBI - I have had a concussion with loc on active duty as well as been involed in a really big IED strike in Afghanistan causing MTBI putting me out for 2 weeks. All of this extremely well documented (more so then anything else) and this is what I received 0% on - Baffled??? Hearing Loss - Denied. I didn't even try to claim it but, they denied me anyways?
  5. 71M10, Oh ok that makes sense. Just feels like a catch 22. As I have been suffering with all my issues for some time and now I am being compensated, "IF" I get better they take it all away... Honestly though, I'd rather my health improve but, whatever this extra money really helps.
  6. That's beautiful. Which RO did you have or is it the Philly one? You can't beat that with a big stick wheww I'm excited for ya. Shoot for that 100% though! I still don't understand why the jump is so huge from 90-100% I bet if they changed that it would cut down on 30-50% of their paperwork. Just break the total amount down based on the percentages, IE 90% of $2769 would be $2492.10 rather than $1661 for veteran alone. That's a huge gap but who knows how they come up with these bright ideas and then wonder why they get so much fight from those who know how to "Fight" Again congratulations God Bless Cham, My claim was done in MA. Once it was ready to be rated it was then sent to Philly. That is all I know? As far as 90-100% I couldn't agree more. Why on earth is the jump so high? If I did try to increase some things I could get 100% and still work so I just don't understand it either? As far as getting the 100% I don't know if I'll go for it. It would be great but, I'm happy with this rating. I think it's a fair rating and I'm happy. lol VA being fair.... Now you have heard it all...... Thanks for the support.
  7. I got my rating today. Basically I submitted a fully developed claim around Aug. Had C&P's done in Nov 6th. They shipped out my claim to Philly to be rated and within a month I get the rating. Just under 4 months total from start to finish, unreal! I ended up with 90%. I searched through tons of information on this website and I am truly grateful to all my veteran/civilian brothers and sister for sharing your experiences with me. I can't tell you how much I appreciate it. I live with some pretty bad stuff that money can't buy but, this helps me and my family out a lot. One questions I had is after the %ratings it stated an exam will be scheduled at a future date to evaluate the severity of my service connected disabilities. What is that even all about? Is this there way to decrease my rating? Just confused if they can taketh what they giveth? Again thanks-you to everyone who helped me along the way, I truly appreciate it.
  8. John999 yeah man, I guess that's really all they can do is prescribe pills. But, I was thinking maybe they can give me advice or guidance on what to do with my memory problems, balance problems, ext... I hear you though, unfortunately (right now) there is not really much they can do but, I'd like to have some type of treatment.
  9. Berta, That brings a tremendous amount of hope to my claim when I decide to file. Like I said the VA shrink seems just like a great guy, super easy to talk to, doesn't rush, listens to what I say. He had all these things he was going to ask me but, I was so pissed off when I was in his office we only spoke about that. So if I can see him for PTSD then go to an outside source for my TBI I see it as a win win. You are amazing Berta! Truly a hadit vet! I literally read this site every day and the knowledge is power. I feel if I keep going to mental health, then the migraine Doctor, then see an outside neuro Doc I should have a solid claim as I have a lot of stuff in my medical record for my TBI's. I don't want to file anything though until I get the diagnoses from the VA Docs. Is that what you would advise is best? Am I on the right path? Thanks again Berta, awesome news!!!
  10. Cooter/John. Thanks I will mos def look into getting a private Doc for treatments. On a better not I guess I met my mental health wizard today and although I had no idea what to expect, I was impressed. He did a good job and wanted to see me again asap so I made an appt for the day after next. I guess I will stick it out with him then see what type of outside neurologist I can have treat/diagnosis me. It's going to be a long road ahead but this site is nothing flat of amazing. Veterans supporting veterans is what it's all about, so thanks. I will re-post when I get more info or have more questions. Thanks again!
  11. So John I guess my question is do I have to get treated and diagnosed by the VA to file and win a disability claim? Or can i go find a private doc that takes my tri-care (I have 6 free months of it through a program called TAMP), then get treated and diagnosed by them, then file a claim with what they diagnosed me with? I hope I am coming across clear with this question. I know what I'm asking I just don't know if i am asking the question the right way? So say for example I never ever go back to that dreaded VA, I go elsewhere. Get treated and diagnosed by a private doc. Then take all my records from my active duty, "paper trail" of what happened to me, then I take all the private docs diagnoses and treatment rendered. Then I submit this to a rater, or c and p or whoever. Will all of that be enough to win my claim? Can I never go back to VA and still put in a solid winning claim?
  12. Thanks so much for all the replies everyone. Carlie, yes treatment is definitely what I am looking for. Also due to the fact that I have 4 documented issues in my medical record I would like to file a claim for PTSD, GERD, TINNITUS & TBI. I am so new to all of this though. I thought I had to get diagnosed by the VA before I could file a winning claim? Is that true? Or could I go to a totally random outside Dr for treatment and diagnoses? If so i would much rather that. I did look into it on this site but, sometimes the long explanations are hard to follow. Thanks. Reddit, I didn't even think about filing for migraines or sleep apnea as they are not really well documented in my service record. As I was a corpsman I know about paper trails and I just could not agree with you more. It's literally the number one thing I told every one of my Marines, so great advice there. Thanks. Berta, those are all great links, I do have trouble with reading everything and it's things like reading where my concentration has diminished. I do have the IED incident very well documented, and the concussion I got a few years ago is in documented in a hand written soap note (sf600) but it was done by a fellow corpsman so it should be good. It was not however, signed by a provider, hopefully that will still suffice? Cooter, thanks man. Yeah this whole thing is going to be a long drawn out process, I just want to make sure I do everything right the first time, so I only have to do it one time.
  13. First time poster here. I just wanted to vent my frustration with my first tbi screening appt today. Background – I had a concussion during my drill weekend in late 2009 with very brief loss of consciousness (a few seconds) due to me slipping on ice and falling on my head. I was fine after 2-3 days. Fast forward to Nov 2011 in Afghanistan, I was involved in a really big IED blast, suffered a mild TBI. I got better in a couple weeks later. Came back to the sates in Jan, by early Feb 2012 I start getting worse symptoms, dizziness/vertigo, irritability, loss of coordination, loss of some memory, BAD HEAD ACHES over Left eye as well as constant neck stiffness with tension head aches, sleeping only 3-4 hours a night because I am constantly waking up. End of March I get off orders. Now I have my “TBI screening” today. Thinking I am going to the VA to be put through the ringer of tests (or at least schedule the tests) or do SOME TYPE OF TESTS???? the Doc makes me touch my nose with my finger then with the same finger touch his nose, back and forth. Then he asks me to place one hand on top of another and flip the top hand over and back repeatedly as fast as I can. He also stated "I walked in the room with no problems" so that was a great sign I’m doing just fine. So here is the kicker. He tells me here is some sleeping meds, you need to see mental health, and once you get sleep and talk to someone about your anxiety & anger problems you should be fine, your symptoms should go away, “YOU ARE JUST TIRED”. WTF? Are you kidding me? Yes I do have bad sleeping problems but does that cause these serious head aches that I have to shut down my life and ride them out? Does that cause all these other several symptoms I have? I don’t know what just happened I just know I have something wrong with me that isn’t just caused by “lack of sleep”. I could go on but this should be enough info I hope. Any wisdom, guidance, help is appreciated.
